Has anybody tried to pre-order one of the new CR laptops? Any information on what kind of configurations you can pre-order or customize?

There will be a custom order version pretty soon, probably once they start shipping them. It was the same with the previous-gen FJ.

I do recommend sticking with the FZ though, it looks better, has a dedicated graphics card, better and bigger screen, and it only weighs .25lbs more.

They don't seem to have the full specs at the sony site, but as has been mentioned before, these really do seem way overpriced.

    but they sure are sexy.

i'm really interested in a CTO model to see what options they have,
supposedly the series is supposed to start at $1140? but i'm still
bummed out about the lack of dedicated vid card.

It's a good-looking consumer lappy at a great price. Besides, the X3100 graphics chipset is going to offer much better performance than the previous generation.

Then again, with Vista no one will be able to tell!

yeah, the keyboard is like the macbook, in that the keys are integrated into the laptop without a tray

I ordered a FZ190CTO on sunday as a gift for my girlfriend who is going off to graduate school. Then on monday they announce the CR, which I think would be better suited for her because it packs the same specs but with a smaller size... plus its more girly looking. It's extremely annoying that I can't cancel my order even though it hasn't been shipped yet. I guess I'll have to wait and see what kind of CR configurations they have available, and maybe do an RMA >_<

Just bought a CR yesterday.. they said it should ship next week. My custom system has the Sangria color with black keyboard. I thought it was fairly priced with the options that I chose:

Also this system is using the latest Santa Rosa Intel chip set and X3100 Intel graphics which is reported to to perform well.. check this url: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-X3100.2176.0.html

I am new to this forum and will try to report back on my new toy when it arrives.

My question is where are these machines assembled? I am assuming that they may be assembled in the San Diego plant being that they told me it may ship next week. I think it using parts manufactured in China/assembled in USA?
