I posted this before in a different section but didn't get a reply, sorry for posting again.

I bought a CW from the Tottenham Court Road Sony centre and it was a display model although the guy said it had only been on show for a few hours. After 2 weeks I realised that the power jack has been yanked and now it doesn't charge properly except when the cable is at certain angles. It's now increasingly difficult to get it to charge.

Sony obviously aren't taking responsibility for this and said they'd charge £hundreds for a fix.

Looking at the insides from photos posted here it looks like the power jack isn't soldered onto the motherboard.

What do you think I should do? I use it for uni so I can't really give it to a shop and have them spend weeks ordering the part etc. Is it an easy fix? Also, can the part be bought easily?

If not, does anyone know of a place around central London that can fix it quickly (within a few days max)?

    Thanks for any help

PS. The left speaker is also intermitent now, this has bad build quality.

If it's the power cord that is malfuctioning, the a replacement should be fairly inexpensive. However if the power socket on the laptop is the issue, then I'm suspecting the motherboard may need replacing, hence the high cost Sony is quoting you. I find it odd that Sony would charge you in the first place since this type of defect isn't an accidental damage, but more of a wear-and-tear. I would contact Sony again if your laptop is still under waaranty.

It isn't the power cord because I've tried with a cord from another laptop and my cord works fine with the other one. Sony says that if the cord has been pulled it isn't covered by warantee and will incur the cost; ie. not wear and tear.

Also I'm not sure if the power socket is attached the motherboard or not, from photos I've seen it doesn't look like it.

Indeed, it's not connected to the Motherboard, but I'm not sure where you'd get a replacement part aside from Sony because the CW model is so new.

Yeah that's kind of a problem. Dose anyone know if the part can be sourced anywhere in the UK? Or if I could order it from somewhere without having it fixed there?

    Thanks again
