Hi,
I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate version x64 on my Sony VPC-CW13.
But the function keys are not working properly. The volume one work but no OSD. Contrast, and monitor selection one since like it is not working at all.
any tips?
I install all the driver available on the esupport.sony.com website, but still no luck.
I was reading some thread, and on some model those driver need to be install in a particular order to work.
Please please please, some one advice.
Thanks

Go to Windows Update in the control panel and install the hardware update for "Sony Firmware Extension Parser" and I think one more, just can't think of the name of it.

The only other thing I can think of to tell you, if you've downloaded all the basic drivers and you can go into the device manager and not see any yellow yield signs is ... try installing this... it's a package of all the original Sony Notebook Utilities. It includes the following...
* Battery Checker 4.0.0.05260
* Setting Utility Series 5.0.0.07300
* VAIO® Event Service 5.0.0.07010
* VAIO Control Center 4.0.0.06120
* VAIO Power Management 4.0.0.08240
***Make sure to restart after installing this*** -
I have an unknown device with the big yellow exclamation point in my device manager even after I install Sony Firmware Extension Parser.
Could that be why? the Sony Firmware Extension Parser did not get properly installed. I try re-install it didn't work. How can I properly uninstall it then reinstall it? -

yes i did try install it.

I forget the order I install all those download, so I removed all the sony utility that show up in the add/remove program, and I tried to install the Sony Firmware Extension Parser first then install Sony Shared Library, and install the Sony Original Notebook utility
but still nothing work -

Well, IDK then? There's kind of an order of driver install I go through when I do a fresh install these are in order of 1-10 1 being the first thing I install...
1. Intel Chipset Drivers (so all devices are able to be seen correctly by the ensuing driver installers.)
2. Video Drivers (in this case the sony NVidia Drivers)
3. Then network drivers
4. Then all the Sony utility drivers for the keyboard and shortcut buttons.
5. Then the synaptics software for the touchpad.
The intel chipset drivers are truly crucial to sometimes recognizing components the right way, so that the installer can install the right driver files. -
volume key is working... with OSD but brightness still does not work

i did installed Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver but still have the unknown device.
can someone please send me the driver for it? -
there is no individual download for sony setting utilities and vaio event service. Just one package of sony notebook utilities. And I had already install that, but nothing happen.
And inside VAIO Control Centre, there is no Special Button setting
Please help, going nuts over this -

I agree with users89898, I would try another clean install. Something wasn't installed in the right order and it's not wanting to cooperate. Also you can *try* here. The inf update utillity from Intel was updated late December soo..

Please follow this steps : Clean install Win 7, run Windows update and install apps below in order :
1. Sony Share Library 5.4.0.05200
2. Setting Utiliti Series 5.0.0.07280
3. Vaio Control Center 4.0.0.07130
4. Vaio Event Service 5.0.0.07130
Restart the system and I am sure it work
That 4 apps control the Fn keys on Vaio
You can download that apps on from this link : http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNCS390&SelectOS=45
it for VGNCS model but it will be fine for VGNCW
If that apps not allow to run on your system, you can use the uniextract to un zip the files and run the setup. -
To op -- are you running 7 professional by any chance? I am having same issue except none of my fn keys work...

How do you know what Intel Chipset we have? The Intel detection utility doesn't work, and the one that people have posted isn't listed on Intel's driver list... I think it's PM45 or something?
-
BTW, why doesn't Sony list VAIO Event Service on their driver page?
-
I try to install the Event Service, and after a few seconds saying it's about to install, the window disappears.
I have an "unknown device" in device manager with the yellow exclamation point.
Edit: Nevermind, it's because I used the link above instead of entering my model #.
Edit again: I installed the right Event Service, but the Fn keys still don't work... -
