Bought the white Sony CPCCW17FX from Best Buy for my wife. She's been really happy with the laptop. Only problem is she's has had occasional blue screens. It's being caused by some conflict with the display driver.
We're running the 186.47's that are provided on the Sony site. Laptop doesn't want to accept the mobile drivers off the Nvidia site. This is obviously the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
I did some research and found that some users with the G210M video chipset had to stop the Nvidia service that was running and disable the Nvidia key in the startup. I tried that, but that did not solve the problem.
Just curious if any other 17FX owners have encountered this issue and if so have found a solution.
Thanks for any and all help.

Would it be possible to take a snap shot of what the message of your blue screen says? There are many possibilities that can cause a blue screen, and without knowing this, it's rather difficult to diagnose the problem.
On a side note, I recently purchase the exact same laptop (for a friend) and have been using it for almost a week while helping him customize the desktop and software. No blue screens (yet). I'm using stock drivers from Sony. -

I have the same issues, but not very frequently. It happens alot with flash videos. I just hope sony hurries up and releases an update for that. These are kinda immature Win7 graphics drivers.

My wife's problems still occur...every few days. I was actually able to update to a newer driver, but the same problem occurs. Now the error (blue screen) refers to a "driver over-stack buffer".
It's very frustrating since my wife loves the laptop otherwise. It's not heat-related...definitely a driver issue of some sort.
Thanks for the input. At least we know we're not alone. -

By the way...discovered a possible fix. Sony just posted a video driver update with the following message:
This utility installs an updated version of the NVIDIA GeForce video drivers to resolve the following issues:
* The blue screen error "0x3B" may occur after resuming from Standby mode with an HDMI™ connection and using the 1280x720 screen resolution
* Distortion or noise may occur when playing an MP3, WAVE, or WMA audio file
* No sound during playback from an HDMI device when the sampling rate for the HDMI output is set to 44.1kHz and 16bit or 24bit

Also note there is an update to the wireless driver that fixes this problem:
This utility installs an updated version of the Atheros AR928X/AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter driver to resolve the following issues:
* A blue screen with the stop error "0xD1" may occur when attempting to use the "Add a device" or "Add a printer" wizard to add a device or printer to the system -

Windows has an "Action Center" which lists the solutions it downloaded. The action center says, "Address a problem with NVIDIA graphics driver." When I click on the link, a dialog box pops up that says:
This solution could not be downloaded

Your computer was unable to download the solution at this time. Check to make sure your computer is connected to the Internet, and then try to download the solution again later.
It has done this continuously for a week and a half.
