I just got an S260...love the computer, but I have noticed a vertical band on either side of the display that has a sort of brownish cast, more evident towards the bottom of the screen. I noticed the same thing on a couple of display models I saw, and am wondering if this is a universal flaw, or if there's just a bad batch floating around Miami. Anyone out there have one without this problem????

Because of the way LCD is lit, this phenomenon is universal. However, the severity is not universal -- some units have very evenly lit LCD (which is the goal), some units have darker spots on the corners, while others suffer from what you have described. Mine is somewhat noticeable when I have a complete single color screen (like the blue screen during booting), but you have to really pay attention to see it when you are using regular applications.

I have heard people having success in requesting an exchange if they think the severity is too great, but I am not sure what is the standard Sony uses in evaluating the criteria for return. Of course, you could still get one that has not-so-perfect LCD even if you exchange it.
