Hey everyone, since we all know how much effort is involved in getting the right drivers installed properly and all functions working on our Sony Notebooks, can I create an image of my installed OS as a backup and use it as a recovery disk? I mean will a ghost image of my current OS also properly install my drivers? I was thinking this would be the easiest way to restore my Operating System without the hassle of installing the drivers, just in case I need to reinstall my OS. Any input on this is appreciated, thanks.

If you make a complete image, you will simply be able to reinstall and start everything running again.

With all drivers intact and functioning properly just like they were when the image file was made?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes. Doing a backup using Norton Ghost & restoring it will bring you exactly to the state that you make your backup.

Thanks for the replies guys, doing this right after I get some sleep. I'll probably do a full system scan for viruses and spyware, and then do the Ghost Image. Thanks again.

Good luck. The programs are very robust and effective. Take your time and set all of the options up like you want to see the image when it is complete.

Yes, it's very easy to do and on newer Ghost u can do a live backup and restore back to the point before u encounter any problem with your system (basically it run on the background and take a snapshot of your system whenever you install something or at certain time that u set). It is really a good tool, it save a lot of time as I manage 100+ computers.

My preference is Ghost 03........DOS mode cold imaging.
Some prefer Ghost 9/10......it has it pros & cons.....Hot imaging.
    Choice is yours........

If you need to create an image in windows itself, I recommend you take a look at Acronis True Image.

Ghost 03 is my favorite tried & tested over the years.......restoration is more than 100% exact & fast.....learning it might take you some days........

Hot imaging is not my cup of tea........

    Regards!

    i'm also an acronis man.

i used ghost on my dad's sony. slow and methodical.

i used acronis on my pc and sz. very impressed. fast and it uses COMPRESSION! it also allows restore right after a clean sweep.

either way both do the job. the latter is just more efficient

Both Acronis & Ghost 9/10 ie. Hot imaging is easy to learn.

    Compression option is in both.

Most avoid Ghost 03 coz DOS mode they aint that familiar with........

    Regards!

    Acronis....Noted and bookmarked.

I was going to go out and purchase Norton Ghost this evening, but I think Im gonna read up more before I have buyers remorse.

I'm wondering if there are any compatability issues with either of these two programs with Windows Vista.

I appreciate the help and reccomendations.

I own both applications and I highly recommend TrueImage. It's faster and more reliable than Ghost. Do a Google search and you will find many reviews with TrueImage almost always beating out Ghost.

IMHO Ghost kinda sucks ...have had some bad experiences. +1 on recommending Acronis True Image. Great, great program.
