    NVidia driver helper service

    nvidia windows 2000 compatible driver

    nvidia media center library

those are the only Nvidia related startup items in msconfig... do i need them? what would be the results if i disable them?

can you post your Start Up list?

    using windows vista on fz190.

Your using Vista so your fine on all 3 accounts. Read my Tweaking thread. there is a Start Up Program in there that is great. It is called StartUp Inspector.

Use it and make a backup first just in case if your not sure.

I use Spybot tools to disable start-up programs. Works great and shows more than msconfig

You can disable the nvidia media center library, windows 2000 driver.

I have problems in removing windows media center processes like ehtray, ehsmas, etc. Everytime I disable them they come up again if I open the windows media center.

i dont disable anything the "processes" section - just startup programs - every person can disable every single startup program (listed in msconfig) and still run fine. have done it for years....

makes everything go faster because even if you can't see it open and running, it might still be there because it started when you started the computer - plus ofcourse the pc starts faster.

I disabled VSC.EXE Vaio security center... I have no idea what it was, but I'm guessing it wasn't vital... nothing is wrong.. plus I have Anti virus./firewall already...

so all I have now is..

Alps Pointing device (I NEED THIS, DON'T I? for mouse pad?)

ISB Utility (isn't this the fn functions, battery detecting, ect?)

    Kaspersky Security

    CCLeaner

    any advice?

you are correct but check my computer once every 2 weeks for viruses, and i know what to download and not to download for file viruses, and use spyboy for spyware :)

and i use to have norton and disabled startup programs but i cant remember if that was a program i left on, or if i disabled all and it still workd fine. perhaps i will reinstall norton 07 and see if me disabling it at startup, still allows it to work fine.

alps - adds the functionality of back/forward/up/down on your mouse pad. if you find that you don't use those movements on the touchpad then disable it.

isb utility - useless. detects whether or not the battery is sony's. if isb detects that it's from another company then it won't use the battery. disable this especially if you're using a 3rd party battery.

kaspersky security - keep it. it's your firewall and av

ccleaner - depends on you. this is on because you specified ccleaner to activate when you turn on the comp. if you disable it then it won't run on boot and instead you have to clean things manually
