Can I install an SSD on my Sony S13P?

    Hi,

I am thinking of buying a Sony S13P with the following specs:

    • Intel®Core(TM)i5-3210M, 2,5GHz
    • SATA Gen3 Flash SSD på 128 GB
    • 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3-SDRAM
    • 33,7cm LCD 1600x900+camera
    • NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M LE

I can get 12 GB RAM for free due to a summer promotion offer.

When I try to purchase with the above configuration Sony Online Store tells me I cannot have 12 GB RAM + a 128 GB SSD on this laptop. I must either downgrade to 6GB RAM to keep the 128 GB SSD, or upgrade to 256 GB SSD to keep the 12 GB RAM.

Do you think this is a technical limitation or are Sony just wrong here?

If they are wrong. Will I be able to install an 128 GB SSD myself if I purchase with a normal HDD? I am familiar with installing hardware. Just like to know if these parts are welded inside or removable.

    Thanks in advance

It's just an arbitrary limitation by Sony, just like the various CPU/GPU/Display combinations. There's no reason for it not to work, but they just don't let you order one.

You can install your own SSD just fine, however it won't be as fast as the Sony one (which is using Raid0). That shouldn't have too much of a noticeable effect in everyday use, however, and it will be much cheaper.

Hey, I'm in the same situation as you: I'm looking to buy the S13p with the same specs (besides with an i7).

Could anyone suggest a good/relatively inexpensive and compatible SATA III SSD?

    Much appreciated!

Yeahh, I read part of the thread, seems alright if you just sleep your laptop. How easy is it to remove the HDD and replace it with an SSD? Are there any guides (for a noob like me)?

    Thanks!
