Have had this pup for 1.5 years or so. Very few problems since CMOS battery problem resulted in lost system time--Sony gave me new laptop back then.

Would appreciate feedback on whether I can upgrade CPU or GPU?
    Current config
    T2400 1.8
    2Gg ram
    nvidia GFG 7400

I did it to my T2400 SZ. I updated mine to T7400 2.33ghz 64bit 4 mb cache. There are several guides online here are some links to get you started. The Hitachi 200gb 7200 hard drive is another very sweet upgrade. My SZ is runs faster than my desktop. It is a screamer compared to most notebooks. I just updated to 4 gig of ram so I have 2 gig for sale before I go to evilbay.

Here is a link on how to replace your hard drive.

Lastly, the CPU is the easist to upgrade. The hard drive is the most difficult but not too hard with the links above. The cpu and ram are on the bottom of the unit. If you flip over the laptop and unscrew the two removable panels, one will be the cpu and the other will be the ram. Just make sure to buy the better thermal paste. Artic Silver 5 is what I used. Newegg sells the CPU usually at the lowest price unless you trust someone on ebay. Good luck with your project. The cpu upgrade really makes a huge difference.

Upgraded my SZ18GP (T2400) to a T7600 without much problem and in less than 1/2 hour.
I have flashed my BIOS to R0092N0 before doing the upgrade.
I am using Arctic Silver 5, plus cleaned the vent when I removed the heat pipe during the upgrade.

Temperature with light load (mostly running at 1GHz) with T2400: 42 degree C
    with T7600: 50 degree C.

I don't have temperature running at full speed.

The improvement in speed is about 37% using Matlab, which is compute intensive.

I am curious about upgrading memory beyond 2GB, since the spec said the max supported memory size is 2G.
