Is it possible to use Verizon EVDO w/ a verizon wireless card on a TX series that has Cingular EDGE built in?.

How do I turn off/disconnect Cingular Edge?.

I want to buy a TX650/651 and use Verizon EVDO.
Am I better off buying TX650 ($100 cheaper than TX651) and turn off Cingular Edge or buy TX651 without Cingular?
    Thank you

You can buy either one, and yes, you can use the Verizon card. I don't have a TX handy, but I believe there's a way to disconnect the EDGE modem if you like.

Maybe you guys should go to SiliconPopCulture.com, theres a forum there for Vaio TX users.
Can't you get a EVDO PC card that'll work with all notebooks???

I use my EVDO card without any issues. As far as turning off the Cingular antenna, it's always off, unless you turn it on yourself. If you open up SmartWi, just make sure that there's not a green light next to Cingular WWAN. If it's not green, it's not on. I just put my EVDO card in, fire up the Verizon connection manager, and away I go.

For those that are using the EV-DO cards, which are you using, and does it work with the VZManager software. I can get my PC5220 card to work, but only by manually setting up the connection. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

As a general rule, as long as you have an open slot, PCMCIA or Express slot, or now even the USB slot with the new EVDO REV A U720 cards, it does not matter what is embedded in your laptop....just don't activate it in the first place, or cancel it if you need to. External cards give you much more choice and are easier to upgrade.
