I want to reformat my computer and I know my SZ270 doesn't come with the XP Professional disc and the resource disc. I have a XP Professional CD and I want to know if I can reformat my computer by using my XP Professional CD because the product key is underneath the computer. After when I reformat it I can simply install all the drivers and programs that I want on my computer. Can anyone please tell me if this will work because I heard from one of my friends that he tried to do something with his computer and unfortunately his hard drive crashed. So I just want to make sure and know if this will work before I reformat it. Thanks in advance.

Let's see if i get it right:

Your notebook came originally with XP Pro but you dont have the recovery disk.
And the Product key you have is for XP-Pro.
Now you wan't to install a normal XP-Pro-CD on your notebook. Right?

No OEM-Keys don't work with retail copies.

Yes I have a retailed window Professional CD and I want to reformat it by using that. Do you think it works because sony recovery program gives me back all these programs that I don't even use. If I can't do it what can I do to reformat my computer? If I call sony they are going to tell me to do the recovery way where no programs get deleted and it will be the same as the first day I got my computer. Please help me out here. Thanks.

For me it didn't work. I have a oem-license for the windows media center edition. When i tried to make a fresh install with a retail copy of the MCE-CD it didn't accept my key.

I'm actually a little bit confused about what you exactly want to to

When you want't to do a clean installation of windows xp without the whole recovery applications, here is a guide which tells you how you can make a
retail version of xp-pro to accept your oem-key and howto make a clean install of XP-PRO
