Hello everybody! I searched the forum but i could not find an answer to my Q. Sorry if i could not find it and ask again.. : )

I have a sony vaio y-series (vpcy11s1e specific model) and i want to try out the new windows 8.1 .. and my question is: if I install it now, could I get back to the windows 7 originaly installed on my laptop with the assist button? i have once installed it fresh with the assist button and there were no trouble at all, but now i want to try out another windows and feel like asking before doing it, as I like my windows 7 and if this is not possible I would stick with it : ))

    Cheers :)

You should create recovery disks (it will take several DVD-Rs - usually 3). When you do a clean install, you lose the application that lets you recover from the hidden partition - everything is still there, but no way to access it. There are ways to back up the application folders from the existing Windows 7 installation, but it is somewhat tricky. I have never done it myself because I would much rather do a clean install, which automatically gets rid of the useless stuff that VAIOs come bundled with.

One way back would be to install Windows 7 from scratch, install the drivers from the Sony support website, and then use the recovery button.
