I have a Sony TZ, and I have been able to receive WiFi in most places outside the US. Now I am away on biz to Europe, and the last 3 hotels I went to did NOT have WiFi, only an ethernet cable connected to a router in each room. I CAN NOT get the TZ to see the internet connection. I have tried for hours!!!!! What am I doing wrong?? Is there a certain setting I should be using??? I have never been able to receive the internet via cable, even at home. I urgently need to send info to office, any suggestions??

Did you try enabling the ethernet card?

Either try turning ur LAN off, or reinstalling drivers for your LAN

    Thanks:
    1. How do you enable the LAN ???
    2. I turned the switch that says WiFi off, in front of the laptop, but since I do not have internet access, I can not re-install the drivers.
    Any other suggestions?

Check whether LAN is working, see the following:
    Device manager
Smart network utility or whatever its called (The Sony "Connection Tool", it has an option for lan)
    Check via Windows, network connections.

    Next bit:
Leave some time for the computer to find the connection.

    Maybe on older computers required:
Restart laptop with LAN cable plugged in.

    Then:
Ask hotel staff whether the network has any sort of protection (passwort, domain etcetera)

If you look in Network Connections, you should see if your LAN (wired) connection is listed and should be able to see its status easily (enabled/disabled). Try 'repairing' the connection here and Windows will disable and then re-enable the card and try to get a new IP address via DHCP, etc.

I just recall this from memory as I do not have the TZ anymore. There is a SmartWi utility where you can turn on/off all the five networks that you have on the TZ (modem,BT,Wifi, wwan, lan).

On my TZ150, SmartWi (short for Smart Wireless) only covers the wireless devices - bluetooth, wifi, cellular modem, and GPS . It doesn't affect the modem or LAN. The instructions above are how I originally enabled the ethernet port on mine.
