High capacity SD cards of 4 GB or 8 GB (or even higher) has been in the market for some time. Can Sony Vaio TT read these high capacity cards without an adapter?

    My TX doesn't...

I went down to the local office Max and bought two 8Gb (SD and MemStickDuo) cards and tried them out in the parking lot only 2 gigs were recognized. I am working on this problem in another thread.

But, my point is that when the HC cards didn't work I simply returned them right away for a refund. Bring a sharp blade so that you dont overly damage the packaging but they have to take them back as per there return policy

    Good luck

Thanks for your response. When did you buy the TX, would it be 2006, when the HC cards came to the market?

    Anh: thanks for your info.

My TZ reads a 16GB SDHC card just fine so my guess would be that the TT (newer model) should have no problem at all with SDHC cards.

Bought my TX at the end of 06,

I am jealous I wish my slots read up to 32GB I could have gotten one from a friend for 50$

I am getting ready to try several driver changes but my gut tells me that the controller chip will max out at 4 Gb :(

Guess I will have to keep swapping out 32 Gig Thumb drives and just let that gapping hole of a SD slot go to waste. I hate waste and inefficiency. Sorry, thats the engineer in me speaking.

Anybody know how the card readers are attached to the MB ?

Thanks Nick. Now I have to buy one and see if it works in my Nikon D80 (which can do 4 GB SDHC, but everyone says it will take 8).

Dont get your hopes up concerning speed by the way! The SD reader has a maximum transferspeed of about 3 MB/sec, the MemoryStick reader is a bit faster with 5 MB/sec. At least in my TZ, it has readers made by the company Ricoh. So not really fast, if I use an external USB2 cardreader I get 20 MB/sec on my SD card.

My MicroSDHC 4GB is also working fine in my TZ298N. So TT has definitely no problem with SDHC.

Thanks for your responses. I am not concerned with the speed of the reader. I want to off load my images taken with my digital camera onto the laptop, and speed is not critical.

TZ300 glad to hear that you are in flash card Nirvana,

Guess it is time to upgrade :( ...

I just cant seem to fall in love with the style of either the TZ or TT, Dont know why ??? The Asus EEE form factor doesn't do it for me either.

I really love the look and feel of my TXN, Maybe I can buy a new card reader module anybody know how it attaches to the MB? or is it hard soldered?

PS I was hoping to make it with having never owned a Vista machine, windows 7 looks awesome and I hear that it is stable and not a resource hog. just need to wait another seven or eight months, may be USB 3.0 will have made it's debut by then as well...

    Fingers crossed :)

    USB card reader work well.
I use a Sandisk Micromate SDHC USB card reader everyday on my Vaio SZ. Is is small and fast.

Those Micro mate readers are great I have several of them...

I am trying to add semi-permanent storage via my unused SD slot thereby freeing up more room on my hard drive. A 16 or 32 Gb card would hold all of my MP3s and save me from upgrading my Hard drive until may be I can afford a new ultra portable. I already use several 16 gig Thumb drives but they are much more awkward then a nice low profile SD card. I have already played music via the mem stick and SD slots and it works great.

Thanks for trying to help though :)
