Hello, I'm new to the forum but hope somebody can help me!

I'm trying to find out the model number / tech specs of this Sony VAIO laptop:

I won it on ebay but haven't paid for it yet - it was listed as a VGN-FW51JF/H but after rooting around on Google I'm not convinced that it is!

I have contacted the seller and asked them to confirm the model number, however I thought I'd also ask elsewhere in the meantime.

The seller has impeccable feedback so it could be a genuine mistake on their part. If the laptop isn't the model advertised, I may still buy it assuming that its specs are still good enough for what I require.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

    Andy

seems to be very very old... about 9 yrs old... no body uses 1.2GHz pentium M right now with 256MB ram :). definitely it's not FW.

Looks like a VGN-FS to me.
No, that's not about 9 years old. More like five.

Yes, it is FS series with Celeron processor, 512MB.
If you got it below $200, it's worth to buy.
I have sold couple of them for $250 + shipping. However, mine comes with Pentium M.

Thank you very much for the responses. The seller has contacted me with the actual model number: PCG 7D1M

Only info I could find was this:

    "Sony model PCG-7D1M . Intel pentium M 740. 1,73ghz / 512 mb/ 80 gb/dvd layer dvd-rw/video: nvidia geforce 6400 cu turbocache 128 mb!"

Not quite as snazzy as the FW, then! ;)

Seems it was a genuine mistake, but rather disappointing nontheless.

I doubt it is Pentium M 740 and nVIDIA since I saw Celeron logo on palm rest.
PCG-7D1M does not say accurately to its VGN model.
However, 7Dxx is equal to US FS7xx model.

    Hmm, the plot thickens!

However, I am going to take the easy option as it sounds like it will inevitably be less well-spec'd than than my current laptop - the seller admits they are at fault and will not kick up a fuss if I decide not to buy it, therefore that's the route I'm going to take! ;)

Thank you once again for all your help. Still got my eye on some other VAIOs so maybe I will be back here talking to you all again soon! :D

    All the best
    Andy
