Just got a new SONY FS690P (customized) and found that the wireless connection is very
non reliable (connection disconnets every few minutes) which makes the computer practically useless.

A quick search on this site indicate that this probably due to a known problem with the Intel chipset.

The customized FS690P come in two versions:

    1. Wireless LAN (802.11 ag) which comes only with NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 with TurboCache display controller.

    2. Wireless LAN (802.11 bg) which comes only with Intel 915GM Chipset Integrated Gfx display controller.

The computer I am having wireless connection problems is of version #2 above. Since I can return the computer, my dilemma is should
I try another FS690P with wireless controller version 1 or should I go with another model altogether.

Does anybody know if the version 1 above of wireless controller is also from Intel and have the same connection problems or
is it by other manufacturer (Broadcom?)?

    Any help will greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kamtsa

This may sound silly, but instead of returning the entire notebook because of the wireless card, why not get a wireless PC card?

Adding a card kind of stinks since it pokes out. The first thing I would try is getting the latest drivers from Intel for the card and the latest firmware for the router. I don't know who makes the other card, anyone else?
