If I order a laptop online, Sony has their 30-day return policy, where you just pay the shipping. But, are you allowed to return it directly to a SonyStore if you live close by to one?

I'd reckon that you should be able to return it to that Sony shop. What's wrong with your laptop?

You will probably have to send it back to the source.

Call up Sony and check anyway.

I'm just wondering, just in case something bad happens and they won't fix it because they can't replicate the problem.

If it's the same in the US as here in the UK, SonyStyle and the retail stores branded as Sony Centres are actually just franchises - independent retailers with a license to use Sony branding on their stores. Thus they're not linked either to the Sony web site or in many cases to each other.
