Like the thread says, can you still get an extended warranty if I buy from one of these sites?
-
Yes you can.
You can find the part numbers for the warranty packs here and then run a search on the part numbers for the best deal. When you get your warranty pack you just register your warranty on the Sony website.
Btw, NewEgg are not listed as Sony resellers but you should not have a problem registering your extended warranty. If you are concerned though then buy your laptop from JR.com because they are listed as Sony resellers.

NewEgg are authorized Sony resellers, they're listed under the business section:

www.provantage.com has some of the best deals on Sony warranties imo
-
yes I purchased my sr290 from sonystyle, but bought the warranty from provantage, they offered the best deal. ordered and rec'd 3 days later (paper work), then you call the phone # on paperwork which is sony's extended warranty, they take the info and regesitered your laptop and give you a contract number to use if you need it, it was about 160.00 cheaper, good luck with it

nice...............................

which warranty are you guys getting? the one with accidental coverage ? recommend something to me please
-
NO!!! You Can't! I just had a big battle with Sony. I called them and ASKED them if a certain online retailer was authorized and they said yes. Then I aksed if I could buy an extended warranty from them if I bought from the said authorized dealer. Again, they said yes.
So I bought the notebook computer (TZ) and called Sony. Customer service said yes I can buy the warranty and transferred me to sales. Sales said NO! So I spoke to a manager. He said no as well. Long story short, I faught all the way up the ladder and got treated like dirt. Basically, when it comes to buying it, the sales department has the final word, and it's no!
Started off my new experience with a neat laptop with a bitter taste. -
so as long as you buy the laptop directly from sonystyle, you can buy extended warranty from proadvantage and apply it to your laptop ?
-
TraderJoe some people on this forum have bought their warranty with accidental damage elsewhere and they have actually used it as well to get their laptop serviced by Sony without a problem. Clearly in their experience it worked. I would suggest that you don't give up yet.
Btw, Sony sales do not always say the correct thing. I don't know if you have checked the business site out maybe there is more helpful contact information on that website.
The warranty terms and conditions do seem to suggest that you can buy your warranty from a dealer/resller.

You can buy your warranty from whoever, as long as it's an actual Sony warranty. And try buying from reputable place, but as long as you've got the notebook, and the contract number that comes when you purchase an extended warranty from whoever, you will be able to go and register it and get it taken care off.
Now is it easier to buy it all from one place, in case anything goes wrong? Yes, but not required. -
Totally agreed.
To TraderJoe, the answer is YES, YOU CAN.
I personally experienced that with both my SZ381 & SZ791. I bought the laptops from a Sony authorized reseller & bought my extended warranty somewhere else. Then I go online to register for the warranty service. It worked both times & I'm very sure that a few other people in this forum did the same thing successfully. -
what all does the accidental warranty cover ? i am looking at
"Vaio NB Exp Ship Extended Service with Accidental Damage from Handling 2-Year"
OR
is this good enough
"Vaio NB Onsite 2-Year Extended Service Warranty" -
If you want protection from spills and drops and the like get accidental. The onsite is great, but it only protects from hardware failure, not accidents.
-
ok thanks... I went for the NBD and accidental coverage for 2 years.

personal experience;
buy the laptop wherever you feel like it and buy the warranty wherever you feel like it. if they pull some BS on you, you have 60 days for a full refund on the extended warranty through sony itself. they cannot deny it, since all contracts have a flag i.e. used/unused/unwanted.
nobody will turn you down, they just want your money. if you want to feel extra safe, buy the warranty with a credit card i.e. Visa or Amex and dispute it on grounds that the product is not as advertised.
due to my last ordeal with Sony Extended Services, I would say, as a consumer, the time has come for all the corporate deadbeats to kiss some @ss or go under. My most recent conversation with Extended Warranty Services is an example of that. I've told them in plain English; If you dont help me -> Laptop goes back, warranty goes back, BBB gets a letter, FTC gets a letter and I buy a lenovo. 10 minutes later the issue was solved.
p.s. when you buy a laptop from a place you are not sure if they are authorized or not, do a simple thing. Call them and tell them to put the model as it appears on the laptop, your full address, the full serial number and the date of purchase of the laptop on the invoice or on the notes (if paypal is used). That is sufficient in many legal cases as a proof of purchase.
Can you still buy an extended warranty if you bought from newegg or Jr.com?
