    Hello all...

I'm trying to load XP Pro onto a Vaio laptop I was given, and though the boot sequence is set correctly but it won't boot from the CD. I stuck the CD in a fujitsu laptop and the machine booted successfully from it. Any ideas why this would happen? Thanks.

how old is the VAIO? The CD drive might be broken if it's old enough.

Try booting normally and see if the OS recognizes the CD drive at all. Maybe it's been turned off or it's not working properly.

The CD drive works, I can open the CD after booting. This may be a clue: there's a + next to the hard drive in the boot menu, but not next to the CD drive. Don't know what that means, when either is manually disabled the symbol is !
