Unless your willing to bios mod your Z, it is not a good candidate for gaming. Once you mod the bios, it performs well with the GPU overclocked.
Although, I would think you will get more for your money if gaming is all you ar concerned with with the Dell.

The Dell has good specs, but also has a lousy screen and is one ugly laptop.

Even with the mod it doesn't perform particularly well. If you're after a gaming laptop don't pick the Z, especially considering that there are better gaming laptops in its class.

Alienware 14x is probably your best bet for a gaming laptop, but note that it is relatively heavy for its class, at 6.5 lbs (for comparison, the VAIO Z is 3 lbs)

You might also want to check out the LG P330 which will be released anytime soon. It's a nice alternative to the m14x, but in a smaller package.

Both the m11x and m14x are better than the VAIO at gaming. However, do note that both of them are heavier than the VAIO by quite some margin.

Overclocking is easy. You can download free overclocking utilites such as EVGA and Precision and MSI Afterburner, and just slide the bars to the values you desire.

The VAIO has a 2 core, standard voltage processor, and a GT330 card.

The m11x sports an inferior processor compared to the VAIO Z but boasts a better graphics card. A GT 540M is better than a GT 330M by quite some margin. For most games out there, the m11x is going to outperform the Z.

The m14x has both a better processor and a better graphics card. Instead of 2, it has a 4 core processor, and boasts a GT 555m graphics card, which even beats the 540M by quite a bit.

The VAIO however, is still a capable machine. What games do you play? Or plan to play?

To make it harder for you to decide:

The 1300usd SA line has HD6630m GPU, full spec i5 dual core, and 1600x900 13.3" display :p
