I had the dreaded "no audio" problem and had to reinstall Vista tonight (after only a week with my SZ650!). Anyhow I did the semi-clean install (again) and everything is working. Unfortunately this time I forgot to backup the "Sony" folder before doing the semi clean install, so now I am missing a few apps.
I still have recovery disks and the recovery partition.
I am looking for the Sony Smart Network utility (green boxes on grey little floating window) to easily flick on and off BT, Wifi and LAN. Right now I have a lame little icon in the Taskbar that allows me to turn on and off the BT and Wifi but for instance turning on Wifi connects my Wifi even if I have a wired connection. The Smart Network utility had a profile switcher.
Anyhow...I've done some google searching and forum searching and couldn`t find where I can D/L or how to restore this nice little utility?!?
I see mention elsewhere of SmartWi but I believe Smartwi is when you have a WWAN card installed, which I don't?
Anyhow I did run the F10 recovery again after all the reinstalling but I didn't see where I can install the Sony recovery apps 1 by 1 so I aborted, too scary at this point.

Bump...can anyone please tell me either how to install just smart network from the recovery CD's (or partition) or an ftp/download site for it?

Anyone?

Well, have not had to do a refresh, but have wrestled with Vaio Smart Network utility and the hardware switch on my SZ650.
Here's what I've learned so far:
1. Though it seems to have a delay in working, the hardware switch does actually seem to work for the wireless radio.
2. You can launch the Smart Network from VAIO Central. Expand Network Connections, highlight VAIO Smart Network, then click Open. You should see the left/right arrow icon load in your system tray. To get the floating window at the top, simply right click the icon and select "Show Floating Window"
3. After playing with Task Manager for a bit, figured out the executible name is LANutil.exe. So, if you go to your "Run" dialog box from the Start Menu and type lanutil, you should also see the icon load in your system tray. This is a much quicker way of launching the utility
So, I'd advise you to try the last two items above. If neither of those work, then see if you can search for lanutil.exe. If u don't find it, search the interet for it or contact Sony support to see if they can send it to you.
Hope this helps!
