    Hello,

    I have VGN-SZ450n.

    I've installed
    The one control/utility file
    The 4 System component files
    the 3 wireless files

It recognized the intel wireless from the beginning under hardware however even after installing all those files and rebooting I can't get it to recognize the switch is turned on for the wireless. In smartwi it says they are turned off. Is there a software way of turning them on?

FYI - my sound, brightness and even s1 and s2 buttons are recognized. However, the speed/stamina switch isn't recognized either.

    thanks

You missed a utility somewhere it sounds like.

You can turn off the wireless from Windows Mobility center. Right click the "power icon" in taskbar and go to Windows mobility center.
Sony utilities might not work properly unless you are using the right utility designed for your SZ.

Thanks - I contacted Sony Support - they said they wanted $200 for support to resolve it - that it would take 5 minutes. I paid the $200. They've been working on it for 2 hours. They've reinstalled all the same drivers/utilities I did. Aughh

I'm up to tier 3 support now. They keep insisting it is the smartwi utility - which they've reinstalled 6 times now. They don't seem to care that the stamina switch has the same issue (LED for speed stays on no matter what position it is in) so IMHO the issue is neither of the slider switches is being detected by the OS and I doubt Smartwi controls the stamina switch.

They've given up. First they said it was an illegal copy of windows - till I showed them genuine authorization. Since that didn't pan out for them they said it was an improper install of Windows. I've installed windows on a few thousand PCs in my lifetime. Short of writing in crayon on the bottom of the install disc, I'm not sure what an improper install is.

OK - got a new Tech - 5th one. He spent an hour on the vanilla install and then said - oh your hardware switch is turned off even though I repeatedly told him that the OS didn't detect that the switch was turned on and he claimed he had read the previoius transcripts - he's a tier 2 guy - AUGHHH

Windows 7 seems to depend HEAVILY on hardware. My SZ tanks about 1 out of 20 installs. Just a minor glitch here or there. My desktop about 1in50. Both using the same install disk.

So yes, it could be a bad install.
I'm amazed Sony would even tackle the problem.
