I'm having a problem installing the ethernet driver in XP.

The official Vaio link XP downgrade site gives a Marvell driver. That does not work. And I think my ethernet is Intel.

I've tried downloading a driver from Intel 82567 but that did not work either. Maybe because it's the wrong one.

    Any ideas?

    My model is VGN-Z11WM

If Sony's Support/FTP site doesn't help you, try out the "Gigabit 10/100/1000" driver. Also see if you can get any info regarding the devices in "msinfo32" (Sys Info).

    It says: PVI/VEN_8086&DEV_10F5&SUBSYS_9025104D&REV03\ ...

Does that ring a bell? :)

Thanks everyone, I got the Intel(R) 82567LM driver from Intel.com. It's working now.

I've got XP SP3 running now with all drivers and utilities. 28 processes running. (including the MS tool for malicious software.)

InfyMcGirk, how many do you have after a clean install?

Sorry, I forgot to check after I first got XP and utils/drivers running.

Right now, I have 58 processes and that includes RMclock, NetLimiter Monitor, NOD32, Firefox... essentially things I don't want to live without. I don't think 58 is too bad. Certainly my subjective opinion is that it's much faster than Vista! ;)

I used the drivers from http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/os/xp/downgrade/downloads.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons

And then most of this list. However, from number 1 to 7 I did not use any setup programs. I manually updated drivers in the device manager.

I downloaded the ethernet driver and X4500 driver from Intel.

Lol to tell the truth, I meant a Vista clean install... :)

But thanks anyway, if I will install XP I have the list ready on what to do.

Yeah, seems a little complicated to me this guide, maybe I will consider "downgrading" to XP.

Have you tried the HDMI if is working with XP? Because I remember that wasn't working untill recently.
