SZ670 working beautifully on Vista Business, 4GB
Nvidia GeForce 8400 video card selected ("speed").
DVI or analog cable to good 22" monitor with 1650x1080 (I think it is) native resolution.

Driver is current, according to the Sony site and UPDATE.

The proper resolution always appears on the laptop screen: 1280x800, and it looks great. When the external monitor alone is selected it also is proper, and looks great.

In CLONE mode, however, the laptop looks fine but the best I can get on the external monitor is 1280x800. There does not appear to be any combination of settings that will enable both screens to operate high-resolution.

Or is there...? Did I fail Nvidia's IQ test?

And I cannot get the Intel card to drive the external monitor properly at all... it appears to be analog-only, and the image is all messed up.

When you clone the display you are limited to the resolution of the lower resolution display. You should be able to expand your desktop to include both display, in which case the external one should use its native resolution. Or you switch off the internal display.

Your answer is supported by experience, and thank you. Two calls to Sony generated gibberish.

Yes, I can switch OFF the laptop display, but then a client sitting at my desk cannot see it.

Expanding my desktop to include both displays --- doesn't that put part of the overall desired image on one and part on the other?
