Can someone please help me  ? I thought I was doing OK with a laptop until I got a new one. I tell you, this one is a nightmare to get around.

I have the Sony Vaio VGN-CR13G/P, and it is only a couple of weeks old, but I am trying to set up the motion eye camera with msn.

Everytime I do this (or use the capture button) it says

An attempt to initialize the camera failed.
Please check if another software is using the camera.

To my knowledge the camera isn't being used and there is nothing I can do to get this stupid thing started...

    Any ideas? Thanks

My gf has the same problem, this problem occurs only with msn messenger. If u wanna use the cam properly then uninstall msn. The cam will work with yahoo properly. :) n yahoo's cam is better than msn anyway...
This is what the sony technician told her... and it worked...

Thank you Death_machine, but the camera doesn't work at all, it has a 'capture' button and when I press that it says that it is being used by another program still...

I will try uninstalling msn though, and see if that helps it in general.

Edited to add that I just uninstalled msn, now how do I re install it? Is there a link or a version number that would work best?

just disable your camera from the device manager and re-enable it again, it will work.

This is for Live messenger 8.1 but other versions will be similar.
In Live Messenger go to Tools, Options, General.
Untick " Automatically run when I log in "
Untick " Allow automatic sign in "
    Click apply and ok.
Close messenger and all other programs then completely "shut down" the laptop.

When you restart, messenger wont start and the camera should (might) work.
To use messenger, run it from the Start menu.
