I got my CW27FX and i ran the VAIO update. it told me to update the updater, and i did. Now everytime i open the updater, i get "Cannot acquire the configuration settings for VAIO Update" when it's checking for updates.
Also, every now and then i get an error from VAIO messenger. How do i fix this?
Edit: Forget it, i got too annoyed and uninstalled it.
-
I've never had the VAIO messenger error, however yes VAIO Update has so far given everyone that same error message.
With that said, on the weekend it automatically notified me of 2 Sony updates and then installed them (bug fixes). When I tried to run it again right afterwards... back to that error message. -
Vaio Update = Another Bloatware by Sony

Well, to be fair it seems pretty lightweight. Although it would be more valuable if it worked as intended.

-
oh it seems like everyone has this problem. i am wondering why vaio update has this error after updating the softwares (it downloaded automatically power management event services etc)
-
I am seeing the same error after updating power management. The good news is my battery drain issue seems to be fixed.
-
one thing i noticed; when you first start this app it gives you the 'cannot acquire...' error. Then if you select one of the other 2 choices - 'important info' or 'successful updates' - and then select 'check for updates' it seems to work properly. It's almost like the 'error' indicates there's no uninstalled or 'new' updates available. does anyone else get this behavior?
-
-
Yeah i got same behavior for my vaio update, wilbertsj.
hmm i have the update for power management and the wrong battery indicator is still the same. -

You guys can add me to your quarrel of issues here with the VAIO Update 5 software...
I too am experiencing this issue, but find it very odd that we all noticed this occuring after 3/28/2010!
That was the last time my Update worked and successfully updated the Sony software by my records!
In addition to the ability not being able to use thier software on my VPCF115FMB, I have also noticed the phenominon about clicking between the different tabs/options in the software and it looking like it works... However if you use the magical recyclic arrows (for a refresh) in the software the error will return!
I'm really annoyed with thier software at the moment, and I know that there are 5 updates out there for me to grab... I was hoping to use this software to get them as PMB for my device has 4 updates.. And most notibly I hate the sequence in which you need to install Sony's software!
Also it looks like some time in April Sony released an KB article about VAIO update 5 having errors and give 8 options to fix, but none work for me... Thier last step is to revert back to a point in time where it worked! Which is a poor excuse... So instead of helping they work around the issue which may indeed be on thier end, or the individuals they were working with didn't really try this solution multiple times.
Anyone else have any updates that they can think here? -
I also have this issue. It pops up the error message and then never finds updates even after switching through the tabs.
Therefore I go to the support site and read through the drivers by date to look for any new stuff, then use sony download taxi and get them all. -
I have exactly the same issue. 4 week old Sony VPCF112FX. Viao Update worked fine the first time, downloaded 5 updates, and hasn't worked since. Just like everyone else's reports. I get the same "cannot acquire the configuration settings for Vaio Update". I get the message the first try with Viao Update after a reboot, or when using the refresh in Viao Update. The other tries just nothing happens.
I've seen the Sony KB posting of the various things that are supposed to help, and they don't. In fact I just did a Sony tech support session where the tech took remote control of my laptop and went through that entire KB article with no luck. I then tried adding Viao Update to my antivirus (AVG) whitelist with no luck. Then tried turning off Windows Firewall with no success. And I don't have the option for "windows XP SP2" in compatibility mode either, but that may be because I've upgraded to Windows 7 Pro and installed Windows XP mode.
And just like everyone else it seemed to be the update to Viao update that killed it.
One interesting thing: the Sony tech discovered that Viao update didn't produce the error message when Win 7 is booted into safe mode. I don't know if that means its working there, or just not producing the message. And I did try running Viao Update in the Windows XP mode, but it comes back with "not a Win32 application".
So.... conclusion: the obvious one. Viao Update is broken. Sony... please fix this one! The laptop is fantastic with the exception of this one annoying issue. -
Turn off your antivirus then update.
It worked for me I'm using Avast and I think it was blocking sony's app. I disable it for a while and the Vaio Update worked. -
-
I think it is pretty safe to call this a global issue for the Z Series.
You can get updates for two items, then nothing. I believe this is a problem with Sony's servers, not the program.
I'm not all that bothered by it, but somebody needs to call Sony so they can fix the problem. -
-
The problem appears because of some services not running. Go to Run type services.msc and start whatever services you have disabled. I did not realize that for instance shutting down Biometric service would disable the Vaio updates. But it did, and re-starting it worked for me enabling me to look for udpates. Depending on what services you have running or not, it may be something else for you. Its not Sony's problem, its ours
Best wishes,
David -
With experience from half a dozen Vaio models over the last few years, I honestly think that Vaio Update is a piece of worthless trash, and more likely to NOT work than actually work. And when it does work, there's no way to exclude an update -- if an update causes problems for you, even Sony support tells you to disable Vaio Update first thing. -
Yeap I agree, and it should be fixed. But just as with a bunch of other software, if you disable certain services the program depends on, it is not going to work. It would be nice if Sony could find a way to at least walk users through the steps of restarting the services if it detect they are not running instead of displaying that useless error message.

Vaio Update = Another bloatware by Sony.
Uninstall it to improve your system performance. -
Just for clarification, can anyone post here if they do not receive an error message, and when the last time was that you received updates through the prog? thanks

My vaio update still doesn't work..

Considering there has not been a decent update for my 2.5 year old FZ in close to 2 years I no longer bother having it installed. My recommendation would be to look at your models support page on the Sony website every once in a while. Usually I just make sure I have the latest from Nvidia for my graphics card and intel for wifi by going to their own websites.
If any decent update were ever to come out it would be big news in the Sony forum here. -
Thanks for the tip! -
the vaio update in the cz11 i5, does not. I also noticed that after i open the vaio update for the second time, it does not show the error until i manually perform the check for update. the other differnce between both vaio is the touchpad, but i dont think thats making any trouble
sorry for my english, i wish someone gets the answer -

So is Vaio Update 5 worthless?
I mean it asks me to update every time I try to load it up, even though I've done the required update. -

Hello dear Vaio owners. This is my first port here. What a great website!
I have the same problem. The Sony esupport representatives couldn't solve it. I did everything: reinstalling the program, running it as administrator, stopping and rerunning its service (VUAGENT), disabling anti-virus and firewall... but neither worked. I'm sure this program connects to the internet and Sony's web site. If you have Bitdefender installed on your system, you can check its activity on the activity tab of Bitdefender's firewall. Vaio Update (VUAGENT) connects to these addresses:
http://vu.sel.sony.com
Test Page for the Apache Web Server on Red Hat Linux
I hate updating from esupport website. I don't like searching between the long list of drivers and softwares for new things.
Sony does not do anything. We should find a way to solve this problem. -

-
Seems to be working now...

Mine's back too. I agree. I hope they keep it working.

Um, I just tried The Vaio Update, but it failed in the same manner again. Is it still working for you guys?

Although I do not get the "Cannot acquire the configuration settings for Vaio Update" message anymore, I am not sure it is working. I ran update this morning and it did not find any updates. For Grins I checked the Sony update page and sure enough there was a new update posted yesterday on 7/09. Oddly enough the update is for the Sony Update software. So it did not even find its own update. I installed it. I am going to give it one more try and if it misses one more update it is getting uninstalled forever.
-
The program says the Update I'm running is basically out of date, but will install the newest version for me.
It then proceeds to extract and begin the installation process, but then randomly disappears...
Really makes no sense. -
