I am torn between deciding whether I should get the EB series or CB Series. I know the price and specifications for the EB Series are better, but I am greatly attracted to the sleek (My opinion of course) look of the CB Series. Is the CB Series still an okay choice? Would the gap in the level of performance between the two laptops be huge? The specs for each is as followed, from the US site:

    CB Series:
    Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor (2.30GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 2.90GHz
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Bolt Black
15.5" Full HD VAIO Premium Display (1920x1080)
AMD Radeon™ HD 6630M (1GB VRAM) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless
    Display technology
    320GB (5400rpm) hard drive
    4GB (2GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
    CD/DVD Player / Burner
    Standard Lithium Ion battery (5300mAh)

    Price: $849.99

I am confused about the looks of the EB Series as Sony had just recently released the new version, yet the US site does not give many images of its laptops. Any confirmation would be great.

I greatly apologize if this question comes off at dumb or annoying to anyone and offer my gratitude in advance for any replies.

I'd vote for the CB, though keep in mind I'm also pretty biased to the C Series' looks. :D

That aside, however, it appears that the EB you listed is still using last year's Intel processor. Between that, the GPU difference, and the styling, I'd say the variance in price is worth going for the CB.

The video you posted above shows last year's E Series styling. The shape between last year's and this year's E Vaios is the same, with the exception of the new models having that textured, waffle (couldn't think of a better description) pattern on them like in your first link. Here's some more pictures, not sure if you've already seen these.

Your opinion is much appreciated eehpeehthreeh. I am inching closer to the CB Series. I suppose the main difference between the two laptops is the rpm of the hard drive. Would I notice a difference in performance between a 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm when playing games or using certain programs? I have read that many people prefer a 7200 rpm hard drive ( Notebook Buying Guide: How To Buy The Right Laptop.

if the hdd is a ton of concern you could always buy a new one off amazon or newegg for like 50 - 100 dollars

The general agreement seems to be that the 7200 has a pretty noticeable difference in speed over the 5400. On the C series, isn't the premium to go to a 7200 pretty small, like $50 or so?

For the CB Series it cost $80 to go from a 320GB (5400rpm) to a 500GB (7200rpm) hard drive. I am trying to not go too far over budget as I originally planned to spend about $750 and adding the 500GB (7200rpm) hard drive would bring the CB laptop to a total of $930 without tax. But perhaps I will take uswarrior1's advise and simply buy a separate HDD in the future, when I can use my own money rather than my parent's.

If you don't have an issue with building your laptop over the phone with Sony, you may try that route. I've had luck with and seen others on here getting the reps to bring their total down a bit. I personally up-front told them that this was the model I want and this is all I could spend. This may help you bring the price down a bit.

Definitely recommend the CB over the EB. As for the 5400 vs 7200 rpm the difference will not be staggering. If you don't mind additional 5 seconds delay in booting and opening heavy applications you should be fine with the 5400rpm hdd. :)
    Just for reference

Boot time for 5400rpm would be around 58 seconds
    And 7200rpm around 51-52
Applications and games the difference will be maybe 2 seconds on average.
