Hey all,
Trying to install windows 7 as I just hate 8!![]()
So I also bought an SSD for the laptop which the BIOS can see and that's fine.
Now I got my windows 7 CD in there and it's just stating "operating system not found.
I have gone into BIOS and disabled secure boot and tried that - no luck.
Anything that I'm doing wrong?
Right:
secure boot is off
BIOS mode is now set from UEFI to Legacy and i'm installing windows 7 as we speak!![]()
Got a crucial M4 256GB
Oh and no RED GATE! I'll post pictures up in that thread![]()

You could have used UEFI...
I've clean installed Windows 7 and using UEFI. Prior I first created a UEFI-bootable memory stick with the Windows 7 installation on it. Never installed Windows this fast (compared with optical station) -
What does UEFI do?
from power off to logged in and able to launch apps it's about 20 odd seconds maybe less. -
But a very short and incomplete summary is: it's kind of replacement of BIOS with more. Initially mainly used to offer nice real graphical GUI to the users while in 'BIOS' settings menu.
With respect to Windows startup speed: UEFI or Legacy won't make the difference.
20 seconds is still OK I think (depending what setup you have).
Point is that off-factory Sony has lots of crap and services installed which just eating their piece of time before Windows is fully ready for you... -
I over estimated - I can be logged in with chrome up on google from pressing the power button in less than 15-20 seconds.
Very happy with that myself
