Hello all, I just got a VGN-UX390N, in case you guys don't know, it's the little handheld sony notebook that apparently is more troublesome than efficient..

    Anyways.

It came preloaded with windows vista business on 30 gb of memory but around 6 gigs of those 30 are in a hidden partition with all the recovery software.

what I did (what i allways do with my past vaios) is make the recovery dvds and format it 100% to have those 30 gigs free (well not really free as windows vista takes up a huge chunk)

Anyways, I decided I didn't want windows vista business, I wanted ultimate and I already had a purchased copy of windows vista ultimate that I wasnt using, so I conected my external dvd drive and formated the pc and installed vista ultimate.

what sucks about this is that i need to install all the drivers manualy but I did and got almost everything working perfectly (bluetooth doesnt work, it installs the driver and it's enabled but it doesnt show any bluetooth icons in control pannel)

So i got fed up with this inconsistencies and the fact that sony support doesn't know how to do anything but to say "Oh you installed your own copy of vista? then thats not our problem anymore"

So I want to use the recovery dvd's I made beforehand to recover my machine to the original windows vista business.

    And here's the problem.

I go to the bios and enable "boot from external devices" put on the recovery disc and boot the machine. it loads up and i go to vaio recovery center and click on complete system restore. It asks me if I am sure and I click yes. then right before it starts to format the machine it says "recovery drive letter is the same as destination drive letter" or something like that... before it used to say "system partition not found" either way, its not leting me recover my machine.. all the sony support guys know to say is "ok then your computer needs servicing" which is complete BS as the machine was working perfectly with my other copy of vista ultimate. as a matter of fact if I managed to make the bluetooth work (its a toshiba bluetooth adapter, its internal) I wouldnt be doing all this.

    any tips?

you can use recovery DVD, the error you are getting is due to different drive letters that you used after formatting. all you need is to rename drives as previous (factory settings). you can do it using any utility.

I would also recommend you to download bluetooth driver from sony suuport website and try installing it.
