    HI.

I have a sony vaio fz-4000, which has been working fine so far. Yesterday the notebook just froze and i had to restart it manually. It worked fine but was somewhat slow at some times. Then suddenly i couldn't get it going. The notebook didnt want to boot, i could not enter windows successfully, it only came as far as the welcome screen. So i tried to reinstall it but after the installation and everything, i cant enter windows again. When I tried to install xp it worked fine until the notebook had to reboot to continue installation, and then it didnt work anymore.

    Anyone can help me?

    Thanks for answeres.

Freezes can be caused by all sorts of problems, but I'd check the easy things first: RAM, for starters. Make sure that your sticks are securely installed; they can occasionally loosen. You can run Memtest, check your Event Viewer to get a hint for the problem, disconnect any new peripherals or uninstall software installed just prior to the beginning of the freezes, and also make sure your machine is cooling properly (at the least, blow out the vents).

My guess is that your problem is something simple like the RAM coming loose. Good luck.

    Hi.

So i have ran some test and my memory, seems to be okey and since the pc works without shuting down the mainboard and cpu should be okey.

notice, i can not get into windows, not even in falesafe mode, i cant even install it properly since after the reboot it wont start.

As i expected there was something wrong with my harddisk, i got this message during a test:

One or more corrupted sectors found
including 2 options to clean and repair, or just repair, which did not work by the way.

    I got this error message:
    Serial number DTGEEX2P
    Failure Code: 0x70- Defective device

    Technical result code (TRC)
    7010180A

So it works to install windows, its just after the rebbot that i cant get through to acctually start the operation system.

    What can i do now?

Your HD is corrupt, its gonna need to be replaced.

Call up Sony and advise them of the Failure code.

Yes, the HD is usually a CRU part (Customer Replaceable unit) without voiding warranty.

Seagate or Western Digital will do fine.

I can get the second one with 250gb space for only about 10-20 dollar more in sweden so what should i do?

Got any reviews, i only found one about the first one.
