While you can't really figure out if this what you want, can you figure out if this is something you don't want? People return stuff usually because they don't like it. If there's nothing you don't like for this laptop, you should keep it. What others think really has nothing to do with your purchase.

I always felt like there's something missing with the SZ - in addition to all the random fit and finish screwups that you're likely to run into (I've had mine for 3 weeks and something new pops up every day - this is likely to be the model that turns into a BIG money maker for Sony after the 1 year warranty period.)

..that's the last kinda laptop you want to be carrying around - especially if it's for any remotely important task.

I would also say are you happy with the overall of the laptop??? Are you looking at another laptop that you might like? If you talking about just in regards of the model, I've looked at all the models since I would like to save up and buy one sometime. I would pick the 360! Well to me, it's either 360, 370, 381, 390 to choose from since those are the fibre and the bright screen ones. The ONLY diff between 360 and 370 is that 370 offers edge for the wireless with wan to use with your cell phone or something. To me unless you are actually going to use that feature, it will just use more battery/power for noting! So all you got left really is between 360 and 381 and the price is over 500 or more difference since the 381 has the 7400 core 2 chip. That alot of MONEY to spend for that.

So I think in terms of models, 360 is a good one if your happy with the overall experience with the laptop offcourse.

    hope that helps.

Only the SZ360P/C is without the EDGE capability, the rest of the carbon fiber models all feature EDGE.....

yeah that's what I said. Do you use it?? Can you use it with ANY mobile company that offers edge? If you can use it with any US mobile company other then what they are promoting, it could be useful down the line.

Only Cingular offers EDGE. As to why there is an EDGE device on the computer and not a UMTS, I guess only becaue UMTS is newer and not a prevelent.

T-Mobile will launch UMTS in 2007, but it will not be compatible with the European version, so it will only work in the U.S. :(

Cingular's Edge is being upgraded to UMTS as we speak, so any SZs with Edge will be outdated.

Best bet: buy SZ360 and wait for new EVDO express cards from either Sprint or Verizon. This will give you true broadband speeds anywhere in the country and allow you to kiss those stupid hotel Wi-Fi charges goodbye!

T-Mobile...Agghh...I have no idea why they are having such problems in the US.

You can buy Cingular 3G UMTS cards now to plug into your laptop. Again, I have no idea why they are marketed with EDGE vice UMTS. The advantage to Cingular 3G (UMTS) is that it is backwards compatable with there very prevelent EDGE network. So even if you are out of a UMTS zone, you still get respectable EDGE.

im back now... the thing is i have no interest in the edge or wifi cards... I just hear alot of bad things about sony as a company and like 9 out of 10 people are telling me vios are bad to invest in. I mean I havent really ran into any issues with it. I need this for my business that im starting....I already have a 17" dell laptop and a desktop but i needed this 13" for school and when my business is on the go which soon will be everday. I love the size ... i just dont want to end up with something that will break down on me in 3 months or run way slow or battery being like 20 minutes long. thats my only real concern.

I thoroughly enjoy mine. I am not the largest Sony fan, but their Vaio's corner a segment of the market and the product delivers. I really do not see another lightweight power system with great graphics and a fantastic screen.

That's why I haven't saved up and bought one, I always think it's too good to be true. Others have told me the same thing.

Actually industry observers now believe T-Mobile was the smart one. They bought a ton of spectrum in August and are ready for a huge UMTS and Wi-Fi rollout by June 2007, which will make them state-of-the-art.

That may very well be true. T-Mobile has been claiming state of the art for years but their network is simply sub standard. I hope that it gets better. And I hope that they start adopting new phones much faster. They are always slow at adopting new tech.

I returned mine after a few days. Overall, the SZ360 is a powerful laptop, but I just couldn't stand the leaking current from the palm rest area running through my body!!! This is a major design flaw and a potential health hazard -- Sony should've rectified this before shipping out the new SZ series.
I didn't use the laptop long enough to really comment on the fit and finish.

Having dealt with Sony's tech support in the past, I would rate them as one of the worst in the business. Just pray that your laptop remains problem free and that you don't ever have to deal with them ...

Lastly, IMHO, with Vista just around the corner, it's better to wait and buy a machine with Vista pre-installed. Although you can get a free upgrade to Vista, don't be fooled. Upgrades often don't work and I bet there will be a lot of posts here from folks trying to make Vista operate on their laptops.

What you do say is really serious. I'm planning to buy sz360 next week along with Igo130 adaptor, hoping to kill electric shock. Hope it would work, otherwise i'll be wasted 2500 bucks for defect item.

Sorry to hear about your problems. My SZ360 is on the way and I'll report back in gory details about it here. If I get electrical shocks, I'll return it too. I'm also curious about the spacebar problem. I will replace the brick with that cool, small Kensington power supply. Bloatware is no problem for me, because I always reformat all my computers.

I don't know you if notice this or not.

But the keyboard on SZ is kinda loud.

ITS very very very hard to type quietly. When I type my notes in class, it feels like I am the only one typing because all I hear is my hand "dak dak dak dak dak dak". I am sure there are other students typing in class but they keyboard are not as loud.

Does anyone feel that way or is it just me?
