I got a ns-150j and slipstreamed an xp install disc and then after some grunt work found the drivers for everything, in the manner that there are no unknown devices in the device manager anymore, had to extract the inf files a few times though.

Only thing that I have not been able to do as of now is get the brightness control to work. The volume control works but doesn't display how it is changing, I guess that really isn't a biggie, actually think I like it better this way anyway, but the brightness control is very important for battery management.

Have you gone into the control panel under the Keyboard settings and double checked to make sure all your Fn keys and other buttons are enabled and functioning correctly?

There are no options to set any of them. I think this might be the only thing I can't get to work with XP, that would be a shame.

Follow one of the clean install XP guides. The order of installation is important.

    Here's a guide for the Z http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=309592

Ofcourse a lot will be different but my guess is you missed step 15 and 16. If you miss those, or forget the shared library, the function keys won't work.

Well I tried using the Vista drivers and also the XP drivers that I found for the NR-110, some of these worked for other devices, and it doesn't find any compatible inf files in either of the folders after using uniextract.

If worst comes to worst then you can just toggle it via Windows

If you have no driver for number 15 and 16 in that guide the brightness keys will not work as far as I know.

i couldnt get mine to work either at first after i clean install. then i stumbled onto this site. i just downloaded the sony shared library, utilities dll, utility service, event service and control center
after that all my buttons started to work again, and they dont seem to be bloated things. i got some goodies back.

I installed the software packages from that link and they worked, had to restart first though. Thanks alot now my machine is completely up to date on drivers, if anyone is interested on instructions for the NS series let me know and I'll make a thread.

After installing the programs from the link above the "mute" hardware button has stopped performing it's original action. Any info on this?
