    Hi all,

recently i upgraded my sony vaio PCG-V505DC1P(1.4G stock) notebook processor to the new 1.7G Dothan Pentium M processor. Windows XP can pick up the new CPU okay, and when it boots up, the BIOS recognizes it as the Pentium M 1.7G, BUT the processor is always running at low voltage mode no matter what (600Mhz). I thought about updating the BIOS firmware but Sony website does not have any updates on the BIOS flashes.

I tried SpeedSwitchXP, it didn't work, the AC adapter is constantly plugged in, and I change the power profile to Always On with no luck. Does anyone here have similar experience on how to get it working at full speed (1.7G).

    Thanks very much!

Sorry to report, there is no way to get around this. You can only upgrade V505 with Banias CPU. Sony has never produced a V505 with Dothan CPU and has never intended to make V505's CPU user upgradable, so they have never bothered to create the BIOS version to support Dothan CPU. End of story.[ :(]
