Can I change my sz270's memory to pc2-5300? Will this improve the performance?
-
Possibly, but no guarantees.
Sony caps bandwidth of memory in the SZ at 533MHz, so you will not get any real benefit from 667MHz RAM. It'll run at 533. -
What proof do you have of this completely false and untrue statement?
You can perfectly well put it 667MHz ram in there, and have it run at 667MHz. As long as you replace all ram with the faster kind, then there is absolutely no reason why it will run at only 533MHz. -
Oh for heaven's sake ... do a search here. The amount of threads that have been given to this topic is insane.
667MHz RAM works just fine in the SZ but it runs at 533MHz. Proven fact. -
^ this is true.
-
You mean except for the fact that the Sony bios limits it to 533mhz?
Check your facts before you accuse others of putting out false information. -
No offense mate. The following is what I suggest to you:
Why don't ya go buy a SZ Vaio & some 667MHz RAM, then swap them for the original 533MHz RAM, test it out & please kindly report back to us your findings? -
funniest crap i ever heard on this forum, please do a search before yelling here. sony limited at 533MHz, my sz450 came with Qimonda 2GB 667MHz orignally, but it run at 533MHz only.

Like the 1000th times this question has been asked... SEARCH MAN!!
-
Very strange if Sony install DDR2 667 originally on your SZ! If so, Sony will soon to unclock the speed of RAM???
-
It's not so easy to search out. I searched "memory" here, but didn't find any thing about this. If you are helpful, just provide a link, 1000 links is better.
-
Oh well I'm sure you can find stuff if you look - does take time. But anyway just saying and wuruoyu answered your question on the first page anyway with his own personal experience + screenshot proof.
Just checked mine and it's got PC2-5300 RAM installed as well!!
But damn the 266Mhz!! What's that column on the Frequency Tables saying about 333Mhz? and the Rated 666Mhz FSB?
Change Sz memory?
