If I pull out original memory from SZ (which runs on 533MHz) and put in 667MHz memory, will it work on 667MHz or 533MHz ?

Processor's FSB is 667MHz and memory is working slower than it should be. I'm not sure did Sony put 533MHz memory just to cut costs or it really CANNOT work on 667MHz ?

Has anyone tried this yet ?

    Thank you !

While it would work, the benefits of doing so are marginal at best. The higher latencies for 667 RAM pretty much cancel out the speed advantage. The only time that 667 will pull ahead is in high bandwidth memory intensive applications...and even then it is only by a small amount.

I'd stay with quantity and not speed.

I agree, I had a friend who went out and bought 667mhz ram for his 667mhz FSB and there was like no difference at all, and he blew $250 for the new memory...

Hi, in my country the price difference between 533 and 667 memory is minimal. Would it still be preferable to get 667 for sony viao's? I've read that the bios will under-utilize that speed, but it won't actually slow anything down would it?

I'm asking this because if I aquire SZ with 2x512MB, I will pull them out and put in 2x1GB. If memory can work on 667MHz I'll rather buy that one (since the price difference is minimal).

i'd say 533MHz and you can't get any benefit putting 667MHz coz sony sz model have only 533MHz memory bus.so think about it.

If the BIOS limit it to 533 the memory will not operate at 667...it will run at 533 instead.

That's what I'm asking. Does someone know for sure is there a limitation in BIOS or it could actually work on 667, potential gain/loss in performance aside.

Sony VAIO's RAM only work for 533MHz, not 667MHZ. If u want 667MHz, may be the next model will work in Centr Pro or Santa Rose platform.

I know it for sure: SZ has 533 Mhz bus memory only.
