So when watching videos on my F22, the colors look a tiny bit off. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but something just doesn't look right. I wanted to see if anyone else has changed their color settings on the nVidia control panel, and what settings are working out for them! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated because I want to get the most out of this screen!

The default settings are: How do you make color adjustments: with the video player settings. Which media player are you using to play your videos? Have you looked there for incorrect settings?

I was actually looking at changing them through the Nvidia control panel as opposed to through the media player itself! I've tried VLC, WMP, and MPC, and they all look a little off, although VLC looks marginally better.

I also have a new F series and my colors are not right - they have a shade of green on things that are yellow. Flesh tones are not natural. I'm actually ready to return the unit before the 30 days are up. I have tried calibration and the system keeps going back to the default. I have the 1920 X 1080 HD screen. This seems to have been a lot of money for a so so laptop.

If the calibration keeps going back to default, try changing the 'Color mode settings' in the VAIO Control Center to 'No color mode setting' if you haven't done already. Apparently that interferes with your own calibrated settings and the Nvidia settings themselves.

Give this free calibration software a go.

I used Calibrize, and I don't see any significant difference... in fact, I think it made it a tiny bit worse haha. I also don't know when I'm tweaking the display settings on the VAIO, if it's applying the settings to when I'm watching videos as well, and not just the desktop color settings. Is there any other good calibration tools out there? Would it be worth giving SonyStyle's tech support a call?

Do you have an Intel intergrated GPU as well as you Nvidia one swichable graphics , as it can cause problems with display calibration.

I'm not too sure. It's the new F22 series VAIO that comes with the Nvidia 500M series video card... I'm guessing it's just exclusively the Nvidia GPU, but can't say 100% for sure.

I may have the settings just about right... if I did a printscreen of a few things, like the desktop, an SD movie, an HD movie etc., would you guys be able to see if it's good or not?

OK so I think I finally have things adequate. But that kind of brings me on to another question. The darkness and colors looks drastically different between VLC and WMP, for some reason the picture is really really dark in WMP as you can see from the images provided. Why is that, and is there anyway to fix up WMP so that the picture looks like VLC's? Because I much prefer to use it over VLC

From the pictures, WMP seems to have more contrast.

I think the difference is to do with hardware acceleration. Some players use it by default; others have to be told to use it. To enforce uniformity across the board, you need to enforce video acceleration (or not) too.

May I recommend Media Player Classic and Shark007 codec pack? If you are willing to shell out a few bucks, Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 has some interesting features.

WMP vidoe looks a bit darker in my FZ too. You can change the video settings in WMP. Open a WMP window, right click > Enhancements > Video Settings.

The issue is the video color range settings. Adjust them in Nvidia Control Panel.

Yeh I'll give the Shark + MPC combo a try, VLC seems to be working nicely for the moment now but I'll see what MPC can offer.

coolguy, maybe I'm blind, but I've looked 5 times through WMP and don't see that menu or setting anywhere! Maybe a version difference? I'm using WMP12.

and beaups, yeah changing color settings in the Nvidia control panel has been in my mind all along, the issue was knowing what I was supposed to be changing and how to know if I'm doing it all right haha! I really do appreciate everyone taking the time to help out though, I just want to get all the initial setting up of this laptop out of the way so I can start enjoying it!! :)

I have WMP 12 too. While the video is playing, right click and select enhancements> video settings.

Switch to Nvidia desktop color setting. Adjust the brightness, contrast, digital vibrance according to your preference when playing a video or viewing a picture. Nvidia control panel has descriptions of the various settings at the bottom (it's not rocket science).

Doesn't that work only if hardware acceleration is being used to render the video? IIRC not all players support hardware acceleration on all media types and codecs.

The Nvidia color setting is irrelevant to the hardware acceleration. If you want a unified color control, use the Nvidia control panel. You can use the video settings in each application if you don't want a unified control.

OK so I almost have it all figured out, this'll probably be my last question I swear haha. Everything looks pretty much good, except for blues (mostly royal blues) look purple on the screen. What exact color settings do I need to change to rectify that and what do I change them to?

You should use a monitor calibration utility to set the colour balance - I don't think you'll get good results if you just eyeball it. Samsung has something called MagicTune. There must be plenty more out there.
