Recently I've found that I've had a very difficult time getting my laptop to take a charge. When I try plugging it in normally, I have to twist the charger around at weird angles before the computer will start to charge. Subsequently, this causes the port to heat up to unsafe levels and on a couple of occasions my laptop shut itself off due to heat.

What I've been doing the past couple days is:

    1. Plug in computer and charge till it gets too hot (~3rd degree burn area)
    2. Unplug to let it cool, and wait till battery is at very low levels

and then rinse and repeat until I've pulled all my hair out.

So I went into best buy today to get some more info and it turns out I'm missing an entire piece in the charging port. I have no idea how this happened or how long I've been living with it but they told me it would take about 2.5 weeks to send the entire computer to Sony to replace the parts (also with the risk of wiping everything off of it). Now, as an aspiring engineer in college, 2.5 weeks is a very long time to be without a personal computer, so I went home and decided I would try to fix it myself or try and find some help to make the process go along much more quickly.

Here is a picture of my laptop followed by one I took from a newer vaio model at bestbuy (sorry for the quality / dust).

What did I do? What would I need to buy to fix this? and how difficult of a process would the replacement be?

    Thanks!!!
