What is the cheapest shop/method or listing for the SR series? So far I have tried configuring on the sony style site and the cheapest i can get with the 300 off addons is around $1400 USD with tax. This is with all the cheapest specs. Also, if anyone can help me understand what they mean by $400 off on additional upgrades (on top of campus value) it would help me too.

The cheapest I can spec it on SonyStyle comes out to 1294...
If you want it to be as cheap as possible, just click 'customize', leave as it is, don't touch a thing, and checkout. -
As you view the various upgrade options, you should notice that some of those upgrades are discounted. For example, if you choose the CTO, you can upgrade to 2gb instead of 1 for free, upgrade to 160gb hard drive from 120 for free, and get Microsoft Office for home/students for free. These upgrades, according to Sony, are worth about $250.
If you apply for a sony card and charge the laptop, you would get $150 credited to your card.
Furthermore, the purchase should get you 5X points on your sony card, which you could then use for a sony gift certificate. (This is worth approximately $70).
Furthermore, if you sign up or have an account with eBates and click through to sony's site from ebates' site, you should get another 4% cash back from them, which would be worth another $56.
So, there ya go. Some nice savings. =) -
Thanks for the advice. I dont think im going to do the credit card, but I will take a lookat that ebates offer which seems nice. also its 1400 (tax inclusive) for just all the stock stuff as u mentioned earlier just that i wasnt sure if there are other discounts i could get.

There is a coupon code floating around the internet for 200 bucks off non-CTO models, so the pre-configured models.(look at my earlier posts in other threads to find code, i canto recall what it is)
but the cheapest SR has to be the sonystyle one at the moment. I got mine for a total of 1490 with 2 year accidental damage warranty, a 70 dollar case, a 40 dollar mouse, plus the specs below (in my sig) i used the free upgrades to 2gb of ram, 160 gb hd, free office 2007 and it was tax free weekend! As an added bonus, i signed up for a bank of america american express, and they give you 50 dollars back on your first purchase plus all electronics purchased on amex get an extra year warranty through amex. so my grand total after cashback will be 1440! -
Personally I think Portable One has the best value, they give you free case, you can get both large and standard batteries, 4GB RAM, Vista Business/XP Downgrade, Inspice theft protection, bloatware removal, 250GB 7200RPM HDD, all for under $2000. You also have option of SSDs.
But that's just me.
