I'm quite curious to find out from fellow SZ owners what the CPU temperature of your SZ when it is idle, when only surfing the internet, & at full-load is (such as encoding a video). Please list the make of your CPU (such as T7200, T2400, etc) & the OS (XP or Vista) as well. If possible, list the temperatures for both Nvidia 7400 & Intel GMA separately. Finally, let us know how often your fan is running and such. A big thanks in advance for sharing.

I'm wondering whether the guys who's SZ's idle &/or surf the internet with a CPU temp of 30˚C - 40˚C did anything different to the others, such as making any sort of adjustments like turn off background processes, applied AS5 to the CPU to replace the stock thermal grease/pad, etc.

CPU T2400
XP
Fan is off on idle and intermittent on surfing; more like low speed to high not off.
My temps run pretty much the same for Idle and surfing.
(when idle, Kaspersky,BT , protector suite are all present.)
Everest has it around 41° - 43 ° . My core 2 runs 1° to 3° on average warmer then core 1.
I rarely use the Intel GMA (10%, even on battery I stay with Nvidia.

Did you do a clean XP reinstall & how many background processes do you have running? I'm just curious.
-
Yes, I did a clean install of XP and I have 32 Processes running.

That may probably explain why you managed to get lower temps. Another contributing factor is that you change the CPU yourself & I'll bet that you spent quite a lot of time & effort in making sure that the thermal grease/pad is being applied correctly.
I'm getting quite a high temp myself. I did not do a clean install, just uninstalled the unwanted stuff & used System Mechanic 7 Professional (bought a full retail version) to fix my registry & so on. However, System Mechanic is not that good in my opinion (inconsistent). I've currently got 70 processes running. I've also got the SmartWi program running as well & I'm using a 7200rpm HDD.
Do you install Adaware & Spybot? If yes, I'm wondering what sort of CPU temp do you have if you run both of them simultaneously? I've them & when I run them to check for adware & stuff (manual check) at the same time, my SZ' CPU can hit 70+. I'm using NHC to monitor my temps. Wonder that may contribute any difference in temp showings.
I'm now hoping that other SZ owners can take some time to fill out the poll. The main reason I set up this poll is to kind of judge whether my SZ is "overheating" or not. -
I use CCleaner to clean my registry and whatever it leaves behind I go to regedit and delete it myself.
In my opinion people tend to use too many programs or use duplicates when there is no need. (Not saying you are)
I have my Av tuned so it does what I want it to do not what the program wishes to do. I am using Kaspersky and it is using 4308K now; before the tweek it was running near 11000 to 19000K.
I don't use Spy/ad aware programs because they have never done anything for me that I can't do on my own. They seem to hog and use unnecessary memory and I hate it. I have never had problems with Spyware/Ad ware so I will continue to do what has been working for me.
I don't think my SZ has ever hit the upper 60s yet, maybe I am not running my computer has hard as you. This laptop stays on around 12-18 hours a day with a few intermittent shutdowns lasting no more than an hour. It is used primarily for Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook and internet; with an occasional shootout with CoD2 and a lot of Mahjong. I watch a lot of DVDs during the week with it as well.
Google Earth does raise the temps but only to high 40s low 50s.
Take a look at the attached photo.
Thats the typical temps after most of what I mentioned I do with it.Attached Files:

AS5 Also helps.

I have a T2300 and I idle and browse at more or less the same temperature. I have RMclock set to run at 1.0ghz unless it's doing intensive tasks. I usually get 34-35C when on stamina mode and 37-40C when on speed mode. For higher clock speeds I undervolted the processor, so that at the maximum of 1.66ghz it runs at 1.037V. I typically get high 50s when doing intensive tasks, regardless of which graphics card I use. I only get into the 60s if I have poor ventilation, such as playing games in my bed.

Mine is 41-50 both on idle and when surfing the net etc.
It goes to 61-70 when on 100% cpu usage only. Not bad.
Btw, I recommend blowing on the fan exhaust in the back of the SZ with either compressed air or even your mouth. I did that a few days ago and my temps dropped 5 degrees, also my fan became much quieter.
Remember dust builds up and will make your fan work harder as well as reduce the cooling. -
I have the same questions...
My sz300p runs at 70celsious with heavy load and I always thought it was too much, I've applied AS5 but it didn't help (yet).
I thought that 70celsious was I lot, but now I see you guys got the same temperatures as me.. I guess it is Ok...
Btw, where can I can I get RMclock?
Thanks -
Mine is currently at 60 with 69 processes running.

how can i know the temp of my cpu?
ty in advance! -
it really depends on what program you're using.
hdd life reports temps usually from 95-105f for medium workload whereas everest reports it as around 110-120F for the same workload. -
It's working well on mine. -
Sony Vaio SZ-220
T2400 1.83GHz Dual core
1 GB RAM
Temps are as follows:
Idle: 41-43* C
Browsing internet: 45-46*C
Full Load (using Orthos to put CPUs at 100%: 61* C
Now, this is because I undervolted using NHC. That helped shave off 30*C under full load.
I also recently bought this laptop cooler and it's helped me shave off another 10*C under full load. -

Could you be so kind and let me know what voltages you are using? The FSX SP1 (now using both cores) hammers the CPU badly and I wanna cool it down a little bit by undervolting. Testing with NHC @ 0.95V hang the system though. What are your settings? Please help!
Checking on SZ CPU temp!
