First of all i urge the mods not to lock this thread. A lot of people have been scammed buying notebooks from this guy, so please let other people not get screwed over.
To the people who have been scammed by colpic: there is a small website where you can register and post your stories in the commnets: http://www.chriscolpitts.com/
-
lol if you had just worked at a decent job in the time it took you to create a website and reg a domain, you could have made enough extra money to buy your TZ at a reputable shop lol.
-
ill be sharing my emails that i had with Colpic before i terminated the long LONG long transaction with him to the site. I hope he gets no business at all. -
Kuat, register but still havn't receive email for pasword.
-
nice work... registered to post my story but don't get the confirmation email...
-
Just make it an open free for all forum and you can clean out the spam bots...I think registering will deter some people from posting...

Just an FYI, our investigators think this may be related to a few units purchased here using identity theft / stolen credit cards and were re-sold to people on ebay, so far the 3 units below, that I know of. Now they are not sure who it was as of now but there are a lots of scams like such on ebay unfortunately and when culprits are based in Canada there are extradition laws that make it time consuming and tough to get justice unfortunately.

sory to hear that ivang, too bad theres no definitive way to know forsure. But since he has so many positive feedbacks, i think many people will fall into his trap like i did when i first started searching for my laptop. GOod thing i demanded my money back and head straight to P1.
Kuat, still waiting on that email password for your site man. -
Anyone can now post a comment without registering. -

I say just use your hard earned money to buy your Vaio from PortableOne. Obviously, you will/may not get the best price from them on some configurations (depending in part on what promotions other sellers are running) but what you definitely get is great service, genuine product & honest business from a very reputable seller of Sony Vaio products.
-
However PortableOne didn't have the latest model that I wanted, and colpic claimed to have had it. That's why i ordered it from him.
I figured he was legit since he had such a big ebay rating - turns out it may be fake because he uses private auctions all the time so he could have artificially inflated his rating. -
some1 should direct ebay to this thread.
-
More people need to post their experiences on that other site. It is not deffamation as all we are doing is stating the true experiences that we have been through. Once there is enough posts about people's experiences then it would hold weight with Ebay, Paypal etc.
Having said that... these people make a nice comission off his auctions, so I've known from my experiences in the past they get off with a "slap on the wrist".
But hey... its worth it if they take things further. -
Ah yes, I'll raise my hand to being another "victim"....
I ordered mine on the 14 Jan after many (18) emails. He had the SZ791NX, which is still unavailable in Australia, and he just happen to be coming to Australia on the same day it was being shipped out in the US (29 Jan). I began getting suspicious when I didn't receive it last week or this week. No replies to my emails since the 28th (I should have known, he was leaving too late to make it to Australia by the 29th). He would often reply to my emails within minutes before the sale.
I've escalated my Paypal claim, and am in the process of getting my money back from my credit card company - this has been activated only in the last few hours, so he may still refund me fully and save me the trouble. Not really concerned that I won't get the money back (I think my credit card company loves me too much), but it is such a hassel. I guess I'm going to Google every seller from now on - that's how I found this forum and chriscolpitts.com a few hours ago.
I'm getting increasingly frustrated with eBay. People flat out lie. A recent seller listed an item as payable through PayPal, then said I couldn't because my address was not "verified". This is BS, as I have been using eBay since April 2000 and Paypal since they started, and have never been denied payment. He wanted a bank transfer, to save the 2 dollar fee or whatever from Paypal. If you leave a negative feedback, the seller does the same, even if it isn't your fault, and eBay doesn't care. From now on I'm going to bite the bullet and leave negative feedback from anyone I think deserves it - I don't really care about my rating - I only buy and never sell anyway.
The question remains though - who is a reliable seller of Sony, willing to ship to Australia, and have the international warranty? I don't need cheap (Chris' price wasn't cheap), I just need those three conditions met... -
I had a similar experience back in 2002 with ebay/paypal. The seller was not Chris. But, the deal seemed to good to be true. I learned a lesson, luckily Bank of America refunded my money. ebay?payPal said I might get charged again, etc... The good thing is I tracked the guy down outside of Indianapolis, called a friend who happened to be a police officer in Indiana, he knocked on the guys door and had a chat with him. The seller contacted paypal and said he was not going to dispute my refund request.
So as the old saying goes.... If it seems to good to be true, it likely is. -
I thought I posted this comment, but maybe it was somewhere else. I bought my sony tz195 from him. It came as promised in about a week. I also paid for a warranty. I never received it. It's been three months now. At first he responded to my emails saying it was on its way. Now he is ignoring me. I am going to call visa and report him to paypal. I have his phone no. also. Should I contact the police?
Thanks,
jenny -
Depends on how Visa defines it. If they view it as fraud they might require a police report.
-
Everyone making posts here about their story to do with transactions with chris, please copy and paste it on www.chriscolpitts.com
We need to build up the complaints list and accounts with him. So far only 6 people have posted and I know he's screwed around many more people than that.
Please avoid from posting comments on theories of what he does with the money on that site as they are all speculation and won't hold any weight with the authorities. -
I am not defending Chris, but I will say that other than the warranty, everything did happen legitimately. I paid for the laptop with paypal, but used a VISA I didnt want. He immeditately refunded the money. I paid with my other VISA. I received the laptop in one week, as promised. It was brand new, in a sealed box. But I never received the warranty.
I learned my lesson. I have been scammed too many times buying things from people individually. From now on, I will purchase only from a store. If I cant afford it, I wont buy it. -
This Chris Colpitts is a master crook. He has been hijacking Ebay very nicely and cheating the honest Ebayers. I have reported to Ebay and they are investigating. He is promising the new Vaio TZs delivered in Jan 08, while even Sony plans to release the new TZ298 end of Feb. So this Chris Colpitt is full of lies and cheat. I have aready filed a charge back on Credit Card and my visa has promised me the refund. It is US$3441. not little.
I learned a good lesson and hereafter I will buy big ticket items from reputed sellers like dynamism www.dynamism.com. Even if you pay extra $$s it is well worth it. You will get peace of mind and good warranty and support. Your latest notebook or any gadget should bring enjoyment not stress. -
i just hope those that still hasn't gotten their money backs will eventually get it back. Cuz now he has gone silent and i wonder how people will get their returns? Though we do have his phone number but i dought that is probably a prepaid phone or some thing like that.
-
Am I reading this right? You actually believe what he tells ya? LOL
If youre in Canada, Chris will just tell you that all the shipments are from the US, which is my case. I was told by Chris that all the laptops are shipped out of US warehouses, from an authorized Sony reseller called Midland. Whats your story?
K, some of you here did get your laptop from Chris, well, consider yourself lucky. But I doubt any of you, if at all, actually got the extended warranty doc, if you happened to purchase one. This is really suspicious. If Chriss source is an authorized Sony reseller as he claimed, getting the warranty doc should be a non issue. So, did any of you get your extended warranty from Chris?
Maybe, just maybe, Chris can't get extend warranties for you guys, because these laptops are actually stolen, or from some other illegal sources? -

I am one of those left a negative feedback to Coplic in the past few days ... I ordered a VAIO TZ198N/RC + option from him. Paid for Nov 4/2007. He claimed he could not deliver and claimed shipment to him damaged. He was then to upgrade that to VGN TZ298N/X that will never come.
He would have all delivery excuses ready and even to a point of picking a company name to submit an electronic Waybill to a courier, then provided me a tracking number that he would not deliver the parcel for delivery.
His aim is to buy time over the 90 days ptotection, if you paid with credit card. Otherwise, your protection will be even shorter with eBay or PayPal.
I had more than 10 people contacting me via eBay, after my feedback. They all show the same modus operani, playing on delivery time.
Chris Colpitts, if you are reading this, I suppose you know who I am now. Yes, my payment to you is VISA protected, that is the reason that you attempted to refund me via PayPal, without resistance (and have funds waiting for me to pickup). As I told you I want a Bank Draft send to me ... if you want to test my documentation and the evidence I have on you ... by all means. I will stand to the test and I will bear the burden of providing proof. I will prove intent and seek punitive damages. You said you offered to refund me, as I have threaten you ... NO, there was no threat; only that I never speak with uncertain terms. I had a very different profession before I entered into the health profession as you now know me. I can see that you are now in the "private feedback" mode, the negative feedbacks keep coming and eBay Canada is flooded with information about you ... you just have built yourself a house without a door! -
-
As I said before, consider yourself lucky. Chris probably did ship out a certain percentage of all the orders he got from ebay, you know, just to keep the scam going. -
Colpic is "NO longer Registered" as from today, with eBay! Those who qualified for "protection" ... better run for your money.
-
It looks like he's been selling non-existent goods for some time already:

Yeah, I continue to read everywhere that this guy or that guy is getting his/he4rs "tomorrow, or the day after. I read where Hong Kong had them on the shelves.... Thus far, I haven't seen anyone post, anywhere, a picture saying, "here's my new Mark III." I hope those that think they have them coming in as they state actually get them, that would be good news to see them out. Canon's silence is deafening. I'd appreciate it more if Canon would break their silence and issue a media release the status of the camera. Why not? ???
I wonder if the guy who "sold" four of them on eBay (colpic?) over the past two weeks has mailed a single camera out. I wrote him, nice guy, but he fell back on it was his supplier who told him that they had it in stock. Several of the cameras died without bid at $4100. Little did he know the actual worth of the cameras if he actually did have them in stock. I'm sure those that bought from him are upset as he most likely is sitting back now and blaming the distributor. His pain will come if and when he learns the actual value of the cameras once everyone knows they are not "vapor cameras." Sorry, my frustration is showing as it overtakes my patience."

Uhh???
what are u talking about? can't make sense or direction ur post is saying or stating -
Just an update - eBay sent out a formal email yesterday telling everyone involved that they should run for their money as fast as possible.
On my side of things, I sent a letter to my credit card company, which they would have received on Friday. I got my money back on Monday! I have never seen them act so quickly (that's a lie, I've never asked for a refund before).
I've ordered the SZ791NX from P1, and am told that I should have it by Friday! Should be shipping tomorrow. Yay! -
have you got a copy of the email from ebay or do you know someone that has, I would like this email, as many of us have been stiffed by this colpic on the laptops, we making a huge case to fight paypal on. We could do with this letter, thank you. -
The email was quite specific that all people who bid or won any recent product from colpic was contacted. If you didn't bid or win, then you have no case anyway. I am a bit hesitant to send you, or anyone else, a private email.

Hi, slightly different take on your problems with this guy. He ordered from us in the UK. Claimed he was going on holiday shortly, so he would arrange shipping through his Fedex account. True to his word he supplied all of the relevent information and we arranged collection. He did pay for the items ordered, but when Fedex delivered he refused to paythe shipping account. Strange situation we thought, after contacting him, he said that was never the intention and he would settle the account. He hasn't! Fedex are jumping on us for a payment roughly equal to the value of the original goods. Chris Colpitt's e-mail and phone numbers are no longer taking messages. Be very carefull.

Hi, I'm another victim, I "bought" a notebook via eBay and PayPal in january 2007 from Chris Colpitts. Nothing arrived, no laptop, no money back. Only words, promises and nothin else. Please help me and tell me what exactly I should do living in Italy... Thanks very much. :-(
-
Whatever happened with this character? Is he behind bars?
