Hi,
Just performed a clean install last night and despite installing all the Win8 drivers from Sony's website for the S13, I still end up with the following:
1. 2 unknown devices, related to HM77 LPC chipset
2. Function keys for screen brightness does not work (audio keys work)
3. VAIO battery care does not show up in VAIO Control Centre.
Ideas anyone?
Cheers!

i'm not sure exaclty but by experience on my Z1, one of the unknown should be the Sony Extension Firmware Parser (SFEP). For Fn key, you need to install sony shared libraries and then sony notebook utilities i.e : event service and control center.
I'm not sure which S you have exactly but for my Z since there's no win8 driver i'm working with the win7 driver and fn key definitely won't work with latest Nvidia driver. however if you want alternatives, here it is:
Screen Brightness Tool v2.1: Projects « Patrick Bader's Blog
just load this one, put it in your startup folder (C:\Users\*Your Name*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) and instead of Fn + F5/F6 you can use Win key + F5/F6.
Initially win8 will display the software as not safe (unknown punlisher) to run but I run it anyway, i scanned with nod 32 and there's no problem. -
I have the S15, and contacted Sony support b/c the only WIN8 video driver available was for the on-board Intel graphics and not the AMD. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but a few days later the AMD WIN8 driver was posted. I next asked them about the other drivers that appear to be missing, relative to those available for WIN7, and was told, on 11/6/12:
"All the Windows 8 compatible driver and software updates will be available in next few days. Unfortunately, the exact release date of the updates is not available at this time. I can only request you to check for the availability of the updates regularly. I will also submit a request to the webmaster of the webmaster to expedite the release of the updates for Windows 8."
He also mentioned ordering the Upgrade Tool for $19.99, which he implied would contain all the necessary WIN8 drivers, but I can't say I feel confident that they'll appear as part of this tool if they're not available yet online. -
Thanks for the replies. I gave up, went back to Win7 Pro. Good thing that I put the install files for both Win7 and 8 on USB drives. Each OS installs fully within 7-10 minutes on the S13P with SSD
