I've done the same but then called the automated activation line to resolve it. Seems to have worked without borking the original installation I made with the same disc on another machine.

ive also got an f12 and was wondering why not just stick in a windows dvd...boot from dvd then install and afterwards install all the drivers and the sony programs that you wanted..isnt that esentially a clean install or am i missing something?

also another question can i use the windows serial number on the bottom of the laptop to activate the windows i install from the dvd or do i have to use the one that came with the dvd?

The advantage of a "clean install" using recovery media is that Windows in activated all the drivers are already installed and maybe you want to keep some of the software that came preinstalled on your Vaio.

You can use the key on the bottom, but than you have to call Microsoft for activation. There is a better method: ABR (Activation Backup and Restore) | directedge.us
