Hi every one, I just jumped from my old VPC-Z11 to the VPC-Z13 i just get it today on 1st November 2010.
    1. the first think i have done is to do 3 DVD recovery.
    2. then i started to do the clean install with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 (N)

    the notebook config:
    i7 640m
    256ssd
4gb Ram (no identification of any brand on the Ram... i think i'll get 8gb g.skill in few days)
    full HD(1920x1080) NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M / Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD
    wifi: Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6250 AGN
Lan: Intel® 82577LC Gigabit Network Connection
    Realtek® High Definition Audio
Raid: Intel® ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/5 Series SATA RAID Controller
    The BIOS: R3030C3

    i proceeded this way :
    1. poered up the notebook
    2. when i am in windows, i put a windows 7 ultimate 64 N on the dvd and hit setup
    3. he asked me if i want to upgrade or to custom install (full install) i coose full install
    4. he put the old Windows Home Premium in folder WindowsOld
    5. the note book restart and asked wher do i want to install me windows 7 ult, and gyuve me 3 partition 1st with 75M (i think frgot exact space) the recoveru i think, the second 100M dedicated !!! and the 3rd C: of 198G ( ther is the old WHP in ther )
    6. i hit the 3rd coice and wait till end.
    7. windows reboot in less than 20 sec
    8. i started installing the drivers and hit some problems, i think that the drivers avalable for the z1390s are not all working like the nvidia one,
i installed all drivers but some of them seems not working !!! i ended up with 2 yello "!" and a Microsoft.net framework box problem
    can any one help?

Which drivers did you install, did you follow the suggested installation steps?

So I assume you want a "Real" Clean install of your system, i.e., completly wipe out the original HD. If that is right, let's do this.

But first, let's make sure you have safety insurance(i.e. backup):
    1. Burn the 3 Recovery DVD from Vaio Care (you said you did it) so that you can always recovery to orginal in case you want to later on (for example, send to Sony for wanrranty reason).
    2. Download every driver and software from SonyStyle.com and Mark which one is which (if you dont have another computer to download it). Put it on a flash drive or burn to dvd. I suggest not to use the recovery dvd to install driver since the clean install requires a very specific order of installation.

Now put your X64 Ult DVD and reboot.
    1. Boot from your DVD

    2. At the place when it ask you which partition to install, Delete all partitions (wipe all original data including the recovery data!!! YOu will not be able to recover by press F10 then). Then create a partition and choose the new partition to install.

Note: at this step windows will automatically create a 100mb partition which is hidden and system. Dont delete that one or you cannot boot. (There is a way to get rid of the 100mb but need thrid party tool and window PE)

    3. Install Windows as normal

    4. Once the windows is installed follow the exact order to install the drivers or you get scrawed. And any time when it asks you reboot, REBOOT it before the next step.

    5. Install Intel chipset

    6. Install Sony Firmware Extension Parser (or Sony NC)

    7. Install Sony Programmable I/O Control Device (if the SonyStyle support site dont have it, you dont need)

    8. Install Sony shared library (reboot)

    9. Install Setting utility series

    10. Install Vaio Control center

    11. Install Vaio events Services

    12. Install Vaio Power Management

    13. Install Video Card Driver

    14. Install Sound Card Driver

    15. Install Lan and wireless card driver if needed

    16. Install WWAN card driver (If you have a WWAN card)

    17. Install VAccess Manager

    18. Install SmartWi Connection Utility (If you have WWAN, install the WWAN version)

Now, All Fn Key's working and all Vaio Control center function should normal. You can test it.

Then you can freely install all other drivers like card reader, touchpad and so on.

Ok for the steps but i downloaded all the drivers from sony for the VPC-Z1390S half of thees drivers are not working and like the nvidia one i had to go get the drivers for the VPC-Z1290S and of some drivers thay can not be installed like the Network and the Sony memory stick, the way i got them to work i went to WindowsOld (when the old original Windows installed by sony) under windows>Drivers>Exe or Inf to get undate for the one missing it worked perfectly. i think thet the Z1390 is too new and the drivers on sony website are just not uptodate.
i´ll try to do a second clean install today and if it work í´ll tray to make the drivers avalable online for the z1390

There is a half-brutal way to get the driver from the Laptop direct. It may or may not have all but worth a try.

Start the original Windows (not the one you installed) and then open Vaio Care.

Select "Reinstall all drivers and programs", then select all of them and click next. Wait until it extracts all the thing.

Go to "C:\windows\temp\" or "C:\windowsOld\temp\" (your case) and see how many are there... :D

I don't knew for you but this Z1390 notebook with the Windows 7 ulti N is very very fast, it start in 19 sec max WaW faster than my 'old' Z11

it seems that the driver for the 6200 is the same that the one for the 6250 !! and a lot of drivers says that the program is not installed properly after the end of the installation (seems that all drivers are installed with xp!!and sometimes in 32 instead of 64!!)
