Any recommendations on how to clean the LCD panel in a VAIO laptop? I own the new Z series laptop and some of the keyboard oil smudges appear on the LCD now. I tried cleaning with a microfiber cloth and this does not seem to work. Can I use a isopropyl alcohol solution to clean this LCD? Please let me know.

Call me an idiot but I use a DROP of water and a microfiber cloth. I rub in small gentle circles and it eventually gets rid of smudges. I read somewhere that it's got an anti-scratch coating (??). It almost has a small plasticy glare so I had a feeling a spec of water would be ok.

If you see keyboard smudges on the LCD it is just a matter of time before you will see permanent marks as the keys leave an impression on the LCD. For this very reason I ALWAYS keep a microfiber cloth laying across the keyboard when I close the lid and put the laptop in my bag. It has become so automatic now that it isn't a bother and I have a unmarked screen after almost three years on my FZ.

I wouldn't mind if somebody could link us to a page where we can buy screen protectors for the Z, preferabbly not ebay since they seem to have a few... 'shoddy' products.
I myself own the older Z, and had my LCD replaced after it started displaying clusters of greyed-out pixels. I carry it around with the cloth-method like Scuderia, but would like some extra-piece-of-mind and get a screen protector as well.
I heard the Sony VGP-FL14 was a good choice around here, but was wondering if anyone knows reputable internet retailers who sell those and ship them OVERSEAs?
Cheers in advance -
After that I use a second MICROFIBER CLOTH to do the final cleaning/touchup
It works great. -
there are professional computer screen cleaning solution for sale @ those computer shops.
just look for those with ammonia-free and alcohol-free solution.
PS: Iso-propyl or any alcohol based cleaner is bad for the screen. it will tint the screen yellowish over time if i'm not wrong.
and yes... if you can see keyboard smudge, take caution.... it means that the method of transportation is bad. you should change the way you carry it or leave a micro-fibre cloth as protection
because the next time it might not be a smudge, it will be a permanent scar -
Have been using this product for about 15 months now - works great to protect the screen. Been protecting my FW for 5 trans-pacific flights, numerous roads trips and train trips. Secures with 3M tape (comes off easily if required). Company will even custom cut if you desire. Very pleased with their product.

Thanks for the replies. I carry my laptop in my messenger bag, which has a separate padded enclosure for the laptop. With the laptop I keep a pad and a file. I'm surprised that that caused the marks. I guess I better look for some cases now.

I always carry my Z with the foam sheet (the one that was there out of the box) between the keyboard and the screen. Is that an acceptable way of protecting the screen or should I get a microfibre cloth?
