I am looking for a thin and light laptop and currently thinking of a Sony S360 series... is there any known issues or problems so far? I am looking for a reliable product (since I used to be a longtime IBM user, which now bought by Lenovo, and made me think to switch brands) and any comments would be appreciated.

I wouldn't switch from IBM to Sony, the reliability with IBM is much higher and even though they've been bought out by Lenovo that deal will take a while to go through and things will be pretty status quo for the next 5 years as far as consumers go. In a recent survey by PC World Sony was second to last of the major manufacturers for customer support while IBM was tied at #2 with Apple.

I don't think there is any big issue with S360. After all, it's just a customized S170 released 6 months ago. You can scroll through the topics in this forum and read people's comment on S150/170/260/270 and get a feel for what S360 is like.

I don't think you need jump ship on IBM either, unless Sony give the specs you look for better than IBM. I wouldn't let those unscientific surveys or the possibility of Lenovo trashing IBM to deter me going one way or the other. There are still a lot of factors that will affect the "fate" of your laptop. Personally, I think you have a better chance in getting good reliability and durability in a Made in Japan Sony S360 than a Made in China (or US) T42 from my own unscientific observation.[ :D]

I've been very happy with every Sony product I've bought so far. Because they've had the best track record for us, we're planning to expand our collection and put more trust in them. Don't get put off by past stories. Sony is improving both its laptop and digital camera segments very healthily now.
