    Hello!

I have two different VAIO Z, from the first version ever appeared, also VGN-Z.

One of the is a German Version, model VGN-Z21WN
One of the is a Russian Version, model VGN-Z11VRN

The German one is with original Windows Vista, as came in Recovery Partition.

But the Russian one, was bought second hand without a hard disk. I have downloaded from the Internet some Vista that will install with my Code under the Laptop, and got some Rescue disk, so drivers got installed properly.

But, the problem is, Windows Update is not working, and I think is fault of the Vista OEM cd used for the installation; as it was not a VAIO OEM disk.

So my question is, if I can make some reinstallation Disks form the German one, and use in the Russian, or will it detect, that the reinstallation Disks are not in russian language, and will refuse to start.

Thank you in advance for your knowledge, patience and wisdom! :)

Worth checking if Windows Update is still working on Windows Vista. Microsoft is being a bit of a pain trying to push users of older versions of Windows on to Windows 10.

Hi! Thank you for your reply!

The point is, I installed a copy of russian windows vista business from Kraftway (russian retailer) and activated it with my Vista key.

The bad thing is, this Kraftway copy has no windows update at all. I think maybe Kraftway in the past did the updates by themselves, but I cannot as I am Vaio user and no Kraftway user.

And what is the problem? This Vista comes with SP1 and because of windows update broken, I cannot install SP2, required for some apps!

I would not recommend anyone to still install Windows Vista in 2016.

If you do need to go this way, search the web for installer packages which include the SPs. You should be able to find those.

My point is - is Microsoft still supporting Windows Vista with automatic updates? Try finding out if ANY Windows Vista installation is actually getting updates.

galaxyge is talking sense. Windows 10 is rather good on older hardware. Try it. I think you'll like it.

    Vista mainstream support ended Apr/10/2012
    extended support ends Apr/11/2017

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?alpha=VISTA

It looks like there are still updates because wsusoffline still has them available. Usually as soon as support ends wsus does not list them.

you might try running the wsusoffline and see if it will install updates.
also of note, vista does not support trim. so if you have installed a ssd in that system, you need a 3rd party utility to do the trim.

    Hi!

It is SP2 that I needed to install, cause Windows Update was not working ... Anyway I found it too difficult and i got some cheapish Vaio Tap. Also not sold anymore, but a little more new, al least has some windows 10 put on it ... Said the seller.

So let's see. I will be posting my impressions if you wish.

Still I know it also something from the past, but with an intel i5 and 256 gb ssd I hope it is not that bad. Also was curious because the tablet factor.

Don't throw me too much stones if it was not a clever move! Now it has to be. :)
