so, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-C22CH/B notebook. I bought it from China, and I brought it to the US w/ me. I was having trouble with the vista that came with the notebook, so I purchased Vista Ultimate and reformatted the computer. It worked fine the night I reformatted. I updated it and rebooted a few times during the process. But the next morning, when I tried to boot it up at work, it did not even boot. I tried taking out the battery and using it on AC power only, I tried only battery. I even took out the battery for a few hours and tried to boot it up. But nothing.........the charging light doesnt even come on. Neither does the harddrive light or anything. It's like I'm just pressing the power button for no reason. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on with it?

I took it to a repair shop, and they said that I should not even try to get it diagnosed, but take/send it back to China and get it fixed there under warranty. The problem is I do not have enough money to send it back to China to get it repaired. And they(repair shop) also said that it is most likely that the motherboard is causing the problem  . Any help would be appreciated.

If the ac adapter light comes on then you need a new motherboard and/or dc jack harness.
Otherwise, you need an ac adapter.

yes, the AC adapter light comes on. and would anyone know where I should have my notebook checked out since I can't go back to China to get it repaired under warranty? and if I were to repair it here, would my warranty be voided?

If you did not specifically purchase a VAIO Overseas Warranty in China you are not eligible to have it repaired in the US under warranty- Sony will repair it in the US as an out of warranty unit. If you use a non-authorized servicer it does not void your warranty except where future faults are due to damage from that servicer or that servicer using non-Sony parts.

Take it to Sony, they should still repair it, just not under warranty. And any repairs they do will not damage your warranty status.

I meant a cheap route, taking it to Sony will cost a boatload of $$ :(

No, there's no cheap route, motherboards are very expensive, and anyone other than Sony who replaces it will void your entire warranty.

I called Sony China and asked about my motherboard, it has a 2 year warranty, so I'm gonna have to wait till next year to get it replaced. I'm going to be notebook-less for a year.
