t3R1, the lack of 5 GHz (802.11a) WiFi support is a known issue for the "new" Wireless Switcher software. See this thread for further information:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=43937
In particular, read my post #6. For most users, 2.5 GHz WiFi (802.11b and 802.11g) is adequate.

GEESH! After pages and pages of fixes and such, I'm seriously starting to lean away from Sony altogether.
Anyone wanna tell me otherwise? I'm looking at a few other brands - Asus, Acer, Dell, Toshiba....
Sony seems to just have too many issues - especially for the high price. -
I wish I have read this forum before I did a clean install of XP on my newly bought VGN-SZ220P. My sony can't shut down properly because of the camera issue.
Can someone send me the latest stream.sys, version 5.3.2600.2790 to me? My email is [email protected]. -
I've just gone through an XP Pro clean install on a new SZ360. Most things are working, but a couple are not, probably all from the same root cause:
Device manager shows 5 working USB host controllers at different addresses, followed by five non-working USB Root Hubs. As expected the USB ports are not working, though they did before the various drivers and apps were installed.
I'd be very grateful if someone can suggest a next step. -
Hi Fundas,
I managed to successfully clean install xp pro on my sz-110b, seems like your plug and play problems are related to a registry problem. If you look on this thread you will find a reg fix which allows windows to point all drivers to your inf folder. Currently your windows is NOT pointing to this inf folder therefore all your plug and problems will persist.
once i applied the registry patch, most of my devices started detecting and thus installed perfectly.

Mine shows five root hubs too, but not five controlers and I just did this clean install, so far all USB interactions have been fine.

After a whole day on this particular issue I managed to resolve it - well for me at least! I had just done a clean install of Windows XP Pro (with SP2 included) on a Sony Vaio VGN-FE31Z.
It seems that the order you install the device drivers is critical, and unfortunately, like many other out there it would seem, I got the order wrong and so was stuck with the error message "Device Object not present..." when ever I tried to install the Audio drivers. The device was showing in the Device Manager as "PCI device" with the usual black cross on a yellow background. I knew it was an audio device, I also had the "as supplied" Sony drivers in "C:\Drivers" but running the setup.exe still caused the error message above.
I had done numerous "Windows Updates" but curiously enough I did not have either KB888111 nor KB835221 installed. After much googling I found a copy of the file kb888111.exe on a download site and tried it.
Voila!
Immediately after the install of KB888111.exe, the Vaio (by itself - no clicking by me) started to detect the SigmaTel High Definition Audio and install drivers etc.
Wonderful - or so I thought. BUt even when all this was done and after a reboot - still no audio device. I then ran the Setup.exe again and this time it did not come up with the error, and the sound drivers (and Modem - now what is the tie up there I wonder?) installed, the sound device was recognised and I now have wonderful sound. Well, crap actually because the speaker are inbuilt diaphrams and not something of a higher cost/quality - but you get the idea.
Hope this helps someone. Excuse any typo's, mis-capitalisations etc - I've had three beers this evening while I have been pulling out what little hair I have left!

cant install default drivers now! -
Anyone that can help rodvang out should PM him privately. I deleted the link to his email for his own protection. Generally, it's a bad idea to expose your personal email on forums like these. It's a great way to start getting spam.
