    Hi.

    Point 1
Check this out, when I visited the Sony website (UK) I thought my SZ4 was gonna be the black one - but when I brought it - it turned out to be the silver one. How can they put this picture up man! How confusing!

    Point 2
Also I know my model doesn't have that finger print scanner - but does it still have that TM thingy safety module thing?

    Point 3
Another question - the HDD protection software, it pops up a little message when I knock it hard (accidently), but I wonder will it still monitor and protect it during shut-down / boot up? Is it hardware or software based this HDD protection?

    Point 4
Isn't the Battery/Charging LED light so annoying! Why does it need to "blink blink stop blink blink stop..." when it could just display orange for charge - green for charged - red for low battery?? And I noticed that it stops doing that blinking thing when it reaches about 80% of charge- so its evening more annoying cause i think its completely charged - but its' not actually true!

Are you sure you got the right model? I thought the /B was a color indication or something.

zadillo :: Yes I'm absolutely sure because it says so on the official Sony website and I've got a sticker on my laptop that says VGN-SZ4MN/B on it! I'm not stupid man! :(! And I don't get the US model reference - they call it the SZ430 etc. don't they? Where we call it something else like mine.

Kdawgca :: Yes that's the one, but does it protect the HDD during boot or shutdown times?

That's a shame, the photo is definitely misleading although they do have its construction listed as magnesium alloy, and not carbon fiber. Maybe you can have it exchanged for free if you explain the situation.

    Answer to

    2) Nope. The TPM and the fingerprint reader is usually packaged together by Sony. They don't need each other, but that's just the way Sony has packaged their VMUs.

    3) It's a combination of both. A guess to your question is that it doesn't protect it all the time, in particular while you're still loading your system. But hard drives nowadays are already very efficient in protecting themselves, for example, the reading head returns to a safe position the moment it isn't doing any work so the HDD protection thing is really more of an extra protection than actual help.

And looking at your brochure, I think Sony gave you a wrong notebook. The magnesium alloy cases are ALL BLACK. I didn't even know that there were silver ones available. You should call Sony to find out what went wrong.
Is your machine an ultra thin version or the normal version with a plastic LCD frame?

The last level of the model using preceded by a / means the type of SZ (in terms of build & LCD):

B - magnesium lid, regular backlit LCD, silver palm rest
C - carbon fiber lid, LED LCD, "black" palm rest
X - "wave-pattern" carbon fiber lid, LED LCD, "black" palm rest

On a similar kind of theme,
1.) Why hasn't my SZ4MN got a fingerprint thingy on it
2.) How do I set up a password on my computer?

    Thanks!

Did you order a model that was supposed to have a fingerprint reader on it, and not receive one.

It seems like if you aren't getting what was described and shown on the site when you ordered it, you should be able to return it and get what was advertised.

Wow thanks guys. Thank you for a blast of information and advice. I brought my SZ4MN/b from a shop so I saw what I was buying but I just got so confused afterwards when I went online to see what the specs were and found that their "official image" was a black coloured palm rest bit. But that surely is the "Premium" model.

About the fingerprint... I thought there was a finger scanner on my model. So that was rather disappointing. But I never really got the information about it. It doesn't say on the information page either, HOWEVER, is it just me or is there a finger print scanner on this image?

So does the TMP Module thing only come with the finger print scanner?

I do see a finger print scanner in that photo.
