For people who ordered via Conics with english business vista, what's your model number is?
TZ90S - HS - NS?
(I know what these represents but i'm just wondering if Conics used an English Vista product key or Japanese one)
-
I believe they use the OEM key that comes with the notebook.
-
For windows any key can be used either japanese vista or english vista.
-
that is including 64/32 bit right ? BTW, anyone used 64bit Vista on TZ ?
-
Dude, July 19 and still waiting as well.
-
I don't think 32 and 64bit version share the same key? I am not 100% certain, though.
teekster and jc4ho, contact them. That does not sound right at all. -
hmm.. 32bit and 64 bit good question... i'm not sure but I think it might be different. Also I think if you have a key for home premium you cant use it on for say a business or ultimate, so I figure it would be totally different for the 64bit and 32bit. But why would you need 64bit on an ultraportable laptop? I dont even use the 64bit on my mac pro desktop via bootcamp... cant even do 4gb of ram only 3 =/ and no programs really to support it and it runs alot slower.
-
Hey nanaki, did conics ship your item yet?
-
It would have, but I told Brett to wait until the VOS details arrive. I don't really need it yet, so I'm happy to wait for them to both come at the same time. I should get it some time next week, which is what I was originally expecting.
-
instead of vos I got the wide insurance, what's the difference? And do I have to wait for the wide insurance too.. or??
-
Nope. Wide is just accidental damage coverage. All the same warranty rules apply (i.e. you will need to send it back to Japan for the 3-year period).
-
This tz is very impressive =) yea the screen is gorgeous!! Hey how do you install the drivers on here?? Also anyone install linux on the tz? And where is a great place for the tz's background pictures?
-
well, apparently due to a large shipment of the TZ, dynamism is running into some issues with the large shipment being held up at customs for some time now. just a heads up to anyone.
-
I just contacted them about an SSD/160GB model. As I mentioned in my own thread, I'm going to upgrade.
-
One thing you learn when you have a 1366x768 screen is that that no one makes wallpapers that fit this screen size. But as this size gains popularity, we hopefully will see more.
-
=(
I guess this original thread is about conics or pricejapan, and I've never ordered from pricejapan but conics to me have been A+++!! It shipped to me in total of 3 days via ems. Also brett was wonderful he answered all my questions pretty much every 10-15 minutes after I emailed him and if he was late due to japan time and usa time he always wrote back at the end of the day. The package was wrapped very securely and just the experience was wonderful =D I would extremely recommend conics. They seem more like a friend who did me a favor instead of just a company trying to make money! -
I have to put a good word for Brett of conics. He stayed untill late in the night (in Japan) to help me out with the recovery dvd(s) for the TZ. When i ordered the TZ it supposed to come together also the recovery Image dvd. Well, somewhere get lost so i had to download the Acronis True Image to do the recovery on-line. Brett was very helpful and now everything is ok. I find it correctly to say a good word for conics because i attack them when they loose the recovery dvd(s).
BTW great software this Acronis
-
I'm a fan of most Acronis software that I've tested.
Getting back on the issue of Conics or PriceJapan, I think this is the best way to describe the two:
PriceJapan: A mail forwarding service. You order from them and then they simply forward it to the address you've supplied by the shipping options you've chosen. They have a no open box policy.
Conics: A service based product. You order from them, and they do more than just forward the product. On notebooks, where it is possible, options to install XP (when XP is not sold with a notebook by the manufacturer), options to have an English version of Vista installed, options for Japan-only accidental and or international warranty, and pre- and post-sales support are given.
Some people like the idea of PriceJapan's no open box policy, but I find it absurd. If I am ordering a product from overseas, where no local warranty or exchange is possible, then I WANT my products to be tested. There is no way that I want any product to be D.O.A., and, without testing before shipping, there's a risk that it may happen.
So, there is a simple way to choose between the two:
Do you want basic product choices and to have them simply forwarded to you, or do you want to be able to purchase your product(s) with an extensive range of pre- and post-purchase services for only a slightly higher price?
Having dealt directly with the public in the retail sales industry at varying levels of responsibility, I value service; Conics is the only choice I would consider. -
Well each to his own ofcourse. In my case PriceJapan was way faster responding to emails. and they delivered my TZ90 within 8 days from order.
This I see different. I expect Sony to test it when it's finished. So a third person opening the box and testing it again does not make the chances of receiving a DOA smaller. -
Each to their own.
Electronics are electronics, and I had to deal with a lot of D.O.A. products when I was in retail. -
Sorry, Phil, but I have to disagree with you. If the computer was DOA on arrival at Conics, then they would have reduced the chance of you getting a DOA by 50%. That's very simple math.
-
or does them opening up increase chances of something going wrong...
I'd rather have my box sealed, straight from Sony's factory. -
Perhaps. But, if that did happen, there is this on their website:
-
Hey Guys,
I am soon going to order myself a Conics bad boy whenever I get my checks to clear from work.
Conics allows you to choose the language of the OS as well as the keyboard layout. I was wondering about the BIOS, though. Is the BIOS in Japanese or do they change the language for it to English as well? -
ALL BIOS are created in English.
-
Huh, no kidding....
"The more you know!" -
Let me shoot you guys one more... Whats your preferred way to transfer money? Paypal, bankwire, creditcards (+whatever fee they include)?
Bankwire just sounds shady (too many movies?) even though most of you say you usually do it that way. Is Paypal really any safer, or is it just a waste of time? -
I paid by bank transfer to their Australian account and everything went fine.
Considering the extra fees that you incur paying via a credit card or PayPal, I would choose bank transfer again, if I was to order something else. -
Jurisprudence Notebook Evangelist
What kind of comeback do you have with a bank transfer and is paypal really safer. Never used either before and I have the worst luck in the world do dont wanna get cleaned out. What are the usual fees for both?
-
For a bank transfer? None, once it hits their account.
I am not sure with PayPal, so someone else will have to answer that one.
Either way, Conics have been in business for years, and I haven't read one bad report on them. -
Oh yea? What are Paypal's fees? I know a wire transfer costs about $30 for a sender in the U.S. and $10 for someone in the U.S. to receive.
-
3% or something like that.
-
Internationally
If I trust the company/person: Bankwire or Credit card.
If I don't trust: Nothing.
Paypal: is easy and quick way to send small amounts of money.
In case of paying PriceJapan, I used bankwire. It's only 10 euro, it was received the same day. -
What is drawback of ordering TZ from pricejapan? Because they have fully loaded (except SSD) TZ for a bit more then $2011,- whith EMS shipping..
Premimum carbon, Core 2 Duo U7600(1.20 GHz), 2G memory, 160G HDD, 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless LAN, English keyboard, standard battery(VGP-BPL11), finger-print sensor and security chip
Japan Vista? ok, i buy one in my/english language - but what about drivers and registration.
warranty? warranty only for japanese OS - make recovery from hidden partition solve this? No VOS (as Nanaki wrote) = send to Japan -
You're not 100% sure you are going to get one, because there have been 2 cases where they forgot to order. 98% procent of the others had no problem.
no need to buy it. You can use the key under the TZ to register a english Vista Home Basic.
Yes, like you say, no VOS. -
Thank you for quick reply. How did those cases end? I suppose they order it, but it took more time, thne ussual.. What shop would you prefer? PriceJapan or Conics? I really like config of TZ at PJ, but I am worried about warranty..
-
In the end they got their money back or their TZ.
I went for PJ. I am a pricebuyer. If you want warranty pay a little more and go for Conics.
They can install Vista for you, english, for free. -
At the end of it all, it's your choice.
PriceJapan _only_ want to act as a mail forwarding service. They will do all they can to get your order, but then never want to be bothered by you after it has been sent. I read somewhere (I am not sure if it was in this read, and nor have I gone to verify it myself) that PJ only act as your warranty outlet for the first year, and you need to pay a little extra to have them take care of it for the last 2 years.
Conics offer a more service-based product. You are going to be paying more, but they will act as your warranty depot for the full 3 years, and give you the option of accidental damage and VOS.
If you are comfortable with notebooks and are happy to take care of any issue that may arise, then PJ and Conics are options. If you are not, and want the peace of mind of having an English OS version installed for you and to have different options for warranty, then Conics is your only option.
Basically, it depends on your wants and needs. -
Well People, I have just received my Daughters TZ with all the options you cannot get in the UK?
Conics are a great company to do business with, Everything they said was truthful, Price, delivery time, Ect, I would certainly buy again from them, They are first class.
My Daughter is over the moon with the TZ it is awesome .. -
That's one lucky daughter.
-
Wow and what an awesome father XD.
-
Nanaki, have you received ur TZ? im planning to buy one next month. U're in AU right? how much does the notebook got tax?
-
Yes I have, and yes I am.
I asked for it to be undervalued, so I did not pay any taxes. -
i have been looking at the sonystyle jp site through pricejapan, it still has the "price down' tag on the tz90, is it the same discount you guys were talking about back in july?
-
I am soon to be the proud (hopefully) possessor of a brand new Conics.net supplied:
Kohjinsha SH8
I intend to come back here a detail my experiences in the forum. I haven't come across an Kohjinsha SH6/SH8 thread. Is there one? (For some reason, I don't seem to be able to get search results from this site. I have to use google in combination with the site name and search criteria.
It's on it's way and it will be interesting to see how long it takes.
Fly little parcel, fly! -
I been keeping a eye on this thread and found it very useful for making a decision on the best way to acquire a import unit for a good price.
I ended up using PriceJapan. Dynamism was too expensive. Conics came close with their cheaper prices and warranty support. In the end i saved over $300 using PriceJapan. Got to me in 4 business days. In total about 1 1/2 weeks for everything including payment, vaio owner made building, shipping & customs.
Granted their English and warranty support is minimal but if you are savvy enough with electronics and take good care of them you will find they have the best prices around and have excellent response times. Just be sure to do your homework before hand so you are 100% comfortable with the hardware you are buying.
For warrenty they offer 1 year no fee. Need to be returned to Japan thou. So i am pretty happy with this and having to pay extra if need be after the 2 years. VOS is something i need to discuss with them as the english info on the website is unclear.
As has been mentioned, they are more a middleman offering a service for customers to acquire Japan models that are normally only for domestic distribution, so if you approach them with that inital mindset their pricing seems quite attractive. -
Hi, customers of Conics!
Trying to get into contact with a sales representative in Conics, by mail or by phone, for asking about practicalities concerning buying a Vaio TZ. Do you have an email address, a name, or even a phone number you can give me as a post in this thread or as a PM?
I would be very glad if you could do so!
Morten Andersen -
I read the whole topic but still not sure about VOS :
I ordered a TZ91HS full options from PJ on 10/29 : shipped on 11/24.
Btw it arrived in France 3 days later by EMS, with 0 VAT (should have been something like USD 750
).
Since there's a stuck pixel in the middle of the screen
, I'm in the process of sending it back to them (one more month to wait
).
Now time to consider VOS : Once they get the screen fixed, if I ask them to suscribe to VOS, does it imply :
one-year warranty in my country of residence, that is France
then two-year warranty in Japan, with me handling all the details in person (since the notebook will be registered in my name ?)
)

hi guys
quick question for buying from conics etc
do the sony applications such as sonicstage, click to disc etc still come on these japan CTO's? and in getting an english OS will the apps be in english?
its probably a stupid question but i just can't figure it out for sure -
Yes everything is in English. I got my TZ setup from Conics.
